Great article, Alex Ren. One thing that I would like to add that was not prominently featured in the article is the importance of data to train those new LLM capabilities. It is especially critical for vertical applications like AI Agents. Collecting, organizing and managing quality and fresh data will be one of the hardest problems as well as opportunities for companies that want to profit from “selling shovels”.

Thank you Alex Ren and Fellows Fund for the wonderful partnership! Fellows Fund’s AI talent and leadership are extremely valuable!

Those selling shovels or operating taverns made great money back then. Very few made money out of actual gold. Same now: those selling GPU computing, and those marketing and advertising AI solutions, are the big winners. Not the companies implementing the AI solutions, mostly due to poor understanding.

In 2011, we regarded the (predictive) deep learning as gold rush. The past year signals the start of gold rush SQUARED with generative deep learning. Happy New Year to everyone!!!
