One Year Later: Standing in Solidarity with Artsakh September 19, 2024, marks the solemn one-year anniversary of Azerbaijan's genocidal aggression against the Republic of Artsakh. This brutal attack forcibly displaced over 120,000 indigenous Armenians from their ancestral homeland, causing unimaginable loss and suffering. Today, we remember the lives shattered by this atrocity and reaffirm our commitment to justice. The Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC) stands united with the people of Artsakh in their struggle for self-determination and the right to return to their homeland. This issue cannot be resolved until a comprehensive political solution is reached, one that guarantees the safety, dignity, and freedom of the Armenian people from continued aggression and oppression. We call for the immediate release of all Armenian political prisoners held illegally in Azerbaijan and an end to the destruction of Armenian cultural heritage in the region. These acts are a blatant violation of international law and must be condemned by the global community. As we commemorate this tragic anniversary, we urge the international community to take meaningful action to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis and stop Azerbaijan’s aggression. The fight for peace, justice, and dignity for Artsakh continues, and we will not cease our efforts until the fundamental human rights of its people are fully realized. Let us honor those lost and stand firm in our commitment to ensure a safer, more peaceful future for Artsakh. #StandWithArtsakh #ArtsakhStrong #JusticeForArtsakh #NeverForget #ANCC #IndigenousRights #HumanRights #CulturalHeritage #PeaceAndDignity

A meaningful way to evaluate a politician's integrity is by examining their stance on the issue of Palestine and Israel. This conflict, at its core, is a clear-cut example of right versus wrong and an undeniable imbalance of power. When the actual facts are considered, it is not morally complicated. That’s why it’s essential for all of us to understand the facts accurately. For decades, Western media and politicians have perpetuated Zionist propaganda, obscuring and distorting the truth to keep people uninformed and, as a result, complicit in the ongoing injustices. The media, along with some of the staunchest supporters of Israel serve only the powerful, sacrificing truth, justice, humanity, fairness, and equality in the process. What kind of Canada do you want for yourself and future generations? This decision depends heavily on who you elect in the coming election. If you value justice, humanity, fairness, equality, the rule of law, truth, honesty, and free speech, it’s crucial to vote wisely. I think that the first step is actually decolonizing the aid (including the United Nations) so that both states develop a willingness for resolution because maintaining the status quo is about money. Speaking of money, if the UN isn’t dismentealed, then the first step is working toward a healthy and ethical workplace inside the United Nations. #UnitedNations #Decolonization #Aid #Palestine #Israel.
"The first step toward coexistence for Israelis and Palestinians" — and resolving the conflict...— "must be abandonment of the zero-sum mentality... "Rather, the paramount focus must be on a shared future built on equality, the rule of law, justice, compromise, and the rejection of ethnic or sectarian supremacy" https://lnkd.in/dUw3npAs

I’ve used my other platforms to say this, but I feel that the message isn’t passing along far enough. So let me make this clear. We must all band behind the principles of the rule of law, of fundamental justice, and of inherent human dignity for ALL people across the world. This is in particular true for the people of Palestine, of Gaza, who are being killed in some of the most unspeakable horrors humanity has ever witnessed since social media gained widespread adoption. The ICJ’s Genocide Convention interim ruling demanding a ceasefire in Rafah — a ruling which already is being openly defied by the State of Israel — must be respected. I urge everyone who sees this post to call on that— whether through public pressure, writing to your representatives, or other means. There will not be any peace in the Southern Levant until all acts of dehumanization and of senseless violence end. As the saying goes, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”, and I will continue emphasizing that for as long as necessary. Read the ICJ order in English: https://lnkd.in/gYcAZdxu Lire l’ordonnance de la CIJ en français: https://lnkd.in/gqgaCzmP (P.S. — We do have an antisemitism problem here in Canada, a real and tangible threat that is growing. However, the proper solutions to addressing that lies in dismantling the increasingly influent antisemitic far-right, one which is also actively involved in attacking queer and trans human rights; opposing an ICJ ruling rooted in humanitarian concerns, or worse, calling it antisemitic, is not the way to go.)

29.7.24 If you are based in the UK: say NO to censorship on Palestine in the Arts Last week, the Royal Academy of Arts disgracefully removed artworks by young artists challenging Israel’s genocidal violence against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. Will you write to the Chief Executive of the Royal Academy to tell them you are outraged by this censorship? One of the artworks that has been removed is a photograph of a protestor at one of our demonstrations, holding a placard that reads “Jews Say Stop Genocide on Palestinians. Not In Our Name”. By removing these artworks, the RA has colluded to erase Jewish solidarity with Palestine, despite the sizeable Jewish bloc that has marched on every demonstration demanding an immediate ceasefire and an end to Israel’s genocide. This decision is only the latest in a well-established pattern of attempts to falsely conflate criticism of the state of Israel with antisemitism and to smear those campaigning for Palestinian rights. By giving in to pressure from pro-Israel groups, the RA has stigmatised young artists in early stages of their careers. Rania, we cannot let the RA get away with shielding the state of Israel from accountability for its war crimes. The RA’s actions help to cover up Israel’s ongoing atrocities and serve to dehumanise Palestinian people and erase their history and experiences. At a time when Palestinians are facing one of the darkest moments in their struggle for liberation, it is ever more crucial that we can speak out for justice. Supporters of Israeli apartheid fear the energy and creativity of our solidarity movement, but cultural institutions should uphold freedom of expression, not suppress it. Send an email to the RA today to make sure they feel the pressure and know that our movement will never be silenced until Palestine is free. https://lnkd.in/ejmS98GM

In Israel, there is an apartheid system, no doubt about that. While some deny or downplay it, the facts are clear. Reports from organizations like Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International conclude that Israel enforces policies meeting the definition of apartheid under international law. Palestinians face systemic discrimination, including restricted movement, land confiscation, and unequal access to resources. In the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Israeli settlers have full rights, while Palestinians are subject to military law. This dual legal system, based on ethnicity, is apartheid. Ignoring these facts doesn’t change the reality: Palestinians live under oppression that must be acknowledged and addressed.

“Muhammad Abdullah Qureshi, President of The Paradigm Association, addressed a rally organized by the Department of International Relations, MUST, on December 10, International Human Rights Day. He highlighted the ongoing human rights abuses worldwide, especially in Kashmir and Palestine. He emphasized that the ability to feel the pain of others is what sets humans apart from animals. Furthermore, he stressed that as Muslims, it is our foremost duty to stand against injustice wherever it exists. #HumanRightsDay #Kashmir #Palestine #StandAgainstInjustice #InternationalRelations #MUSTUniversity #TheParadigmAssociation #HumanRights #GlobalJustice #MuslimUnity #StopHumanRightsAbuse #SpeakForTheOppressed #SocialJustice #YouthLeadership #StandForJustice”

Good piece in the Guardian by a member of the Israeli parliament who was suspended for criticising Netanyahu - this is not a real democracy as we know it. Extract: Currently, Israel’s government is forging a more monolithic, more violent and more unashamedly racist state with each passing day. Under the guise of combating terrorism, legislation to shrink the democratic sphere is being passed at an accelerated speed. Teachers, academics, students, journalists, workers are all targeted, censored and silenced. A special bill to bar parties whose main constituency is Israeli Arab from participating in national elections is currently being formulated. Fanatical settlers are waiting for the green light to reoccupy the Gaza Strip, actually campaigning outside its border with no interference from law enforcement. Palestinians are concentrated in smaller and smaller enclaves that are targeted with heavier and heavier military force. The “Decisive plan”, first conceived by MK Bezalel Smotrich, is under way as Netanyahu pursues his fantasy of being the first Israeli prime minister in decades to expand the state’s territory. In order to fulfil this plan, he is willing to drown the entire region in rivers of blood, of both Jews and Arabs, of Israelis and Palestinians. His government is sacrificing the hostages and it sees no wrong in abandoning all hope for a full ceasefire and peace. Extract end To quote Yuval Noah Harari of Sapiens fame, 'Israel is in a battle for its soul' - currently the ethno-nationalists and fascists seem to be winning by a landslide, and the voices for peace are being ejected. https://lnkd.in/euzYAepx
