### Summary of "Pharmacy First Myth Busting" Series: #### Series #1: 1. **GP Referrals:** Contrary to belief, GPs **can** refer patients to pharmacists for minor illness consultations under the Pharmacy First scheme, continuing the practice from the Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS). 2. **Distance Selling Pharmacies (DSPs):** DSPs **cannot** provide face-to-face consultations; they can only offer video consultations from their premises. 3. **UTI Consultations:** The UTI clinical pathway is restricted to certain groups, primarily cisgender women and transgender men without urethral alterations. Other groups should be referred to GPs. 4. **Patient Referrals:** If a referred patient is unreachable, pharmacists should close the referral on the system rather than rejecting it. #### Series #2: 1. **Acute Otitis Media:** The clinical pathway is only for children aged 1-17 years, excluding those 18 and older. 2. **DSPs & Otitis Media:** DSPs **cannot** provide consultations for acute otitis media since it requires in-person ear examination. 3. **Medicine Supply:** Pharmacists must follow the Patient Group Direction (PGD) for dosage, not personal discretion. 4. **Non-Eligible Referrals:** Patients who don’t meet clinical pathway criteria can still receive a minor illness consultation. #### Series #3: 1. **Serious Symptoms:** If red flags or serious conditions are suspected, pharmacists should still treat it as a minor illness consultation and take appropriate action, such as referring the patient urgently. 2. **UTI Consultation Age Limit:** The uncomplicated UTI clinical pathway excludes women aged 65 and over. 3. **Record Keeping:** Clinical records must be documented the same day as the consultation, except in exceptional cases, to ensure professional standards and timely data sharing.

There are caveats in life. Warnings are everywhere. There are five different cautionary labels on cigarettes. Drink responsibly is the admonition on alcohol products. Read the instructions before operating power tools, and don’t stick your tongue on a frozen pole. But, what about healthcare warnings? Medical errors are a harsh reality many Americans face every day. Behind closed doors, patients are often subjected to substandard care that can lead to devastating consequences. From misdiagnoses to surgical mistakes, these errors can have a profound impact on a ’patient’s health and well-being. In "Behind Closed Doors: The Shocking Reality of Medical Errors in America" I shed light on the shocking reality of medical errors in America, emphasizing the need for a concerted effort to address this critical issue. It calls for increased awareness, collaboration, and action to prevent medical errors, improve patient safety, and create a healthcare system that provides the best possible care for all. https://lnkd.in/gqZuKPsi #MedicalErrorsInAmerica, #PatientSafety, #HealthcareCrisis
