🏙️ Remember a Local, Name a Place! Victoria’s cities, suburbs, and regions are growing, and the Victorian Government needs your help to name the new streets, parks, and community spaces that will emerge. Over the next 3 years, more than 6,000 places will need names, and we want those names to honour the people who’ve made our communities thrive. This is a unique opportunity to increase the recognition of Women, First Nations, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, and culturally and linguistically diverse communities, who have historically been underrepresented in place naming. Naming places can celebrate legacies, and now it’s your turn to ensure the women who’ve shaped our communities are honoured too. 💪👩🎨 To be commemorated, the nominee must be deceased, have a lasting legacy, and a strong connection to the area. Nominations will be added to a council name bank for consideration when a new place needs naming. Let’s make sure our place names reflect the rich diversity of our community and the incredible impact of women across Victoria! 🌏 ➡️ How to Nominate: Gather a short bio, connection to the area, and reasons for nomination. Include letters of support from next of kin or organisations. Submit your nomination through the provided form. ➡️ The full details and application form can be found here: https://lnkd.in/g56VeFV6 This is your chance to ensure the names of our streets, parks, and public spaces tell the stories of women and other community heroes who’ve made a real difference. 🌟 #NameALocal #Victoria #WomenInHistory #CommunityHeroes #DiversityInNaming #puthernameonit

PLEASE JOIN US! Greeter Training, 6/25, 12-1:30 PM ET Reg link/Web page: REDI Greeter Workshop - 6/25/2024 - Campaign (reformjudaism.org) Blurb: As antisemitism surges, it’s more important than ever that we affirm Jews from all backgrounds; this includes LGBTQ+ identifying Jews, Jews of Color, interfaith families, people with disabilities, Jews with various body sizes, ages, ethnic backgrounds, and other often underrepresented groups. Effective greeters can create a congregational culture of inclusivity and belonging for Jews from all backgrounds who enter our doors, whether they’re members, prospective members, or visitors. Conversely, lack of a greeting, or the wrong kind of greeting, can unintentionally marginalize individuals and families and signal the exact opposite of what we are aiming to communicate. Come join us for this workshop, where we will engage in some simple education around creating an inclusive community from the very beginning.

The best thing about #internationalnonbinaryday this week was texting all my enby friends and sharing the glee together. 🥰 Outside the gender binary, we are so diverse. Some feel comfortable in their bodies while others are dysphoric. Some people are comfortable using the pronouns associated with their sex assigned at birth, and others are absolutely not, while yet others are fine with multiple or even any pronouns! Some feel like a creature or an it, and others as a genderless person. Some identify partially with man/woman, and others are another gender entirely! And not every society has two binary genders, so in some places, folks may also experience less discrimination. 💜 As #nonbinary and #genderqueer folks, we aren’t boxed in to mainstream society’s two rigid options and thus our lived experiences vary greatly from each other’s as well. My post can barely scratch the surface. Personally, I view myself as a human first and foremost. My freedom to simply exist can look like variable creative expression (what others may see) plus lots of joy in each move through life (what I experience), although I do think about my safety when I am in unfamiliar places. Do you know any other nonbinary folks? How have they impacted your life? https://lnkd.in/gjW8ZgZP #gender #deia #lgbtqia

How can we move past the intergenerational gaps in our rainbow communities, highlighted by the events leading up to the 2019 pride parade? I offer some thoughts in this post that follows on from my last. What do you think? https://lnkd.in/gTfsQQ8T

Happy Juneteenth Freedom Day! Honoring Juneteenth is crucial because it commemorates the hard-won freedom of enslaved African Americans, reminding us of the ongoing fight for equality and justice that must be upheld for all. Diversity and inclusion are not just ideals; they are essential for advancing the rights and dignity of every individual, which lies at the heart of what Juneteenth represents. By embracing diversity, we learn from each other, grow in empathy, and ensure that everyone has a say in building a fairer and more inclusive society. Juneteenth resonates deeply with the Jewish community, drawing parallels to our own story of liberation from slavery and emphasizing the path from oppression to freedom. Our shared values such as Herut (Freedom), Tzedek (Justice), Yizkor (Remembrance), Kehillah (Community), and Tikvah (Hope) align closely with the themes celebrated on Juneteenth. Our history of fighting for justice, including marching alongside Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement, underscores our commitment to equality and social justice. As we commemorate this day, I wanted to take the time to reflect that although we are different, we are also aligned in our commitment to creating a fair and inclusive society for all. #JuneteenthFreedom #JusticeForAll #JewishValues #UnityInJustice #EqualityNow #DiversityAndInclusion Natalie Loeb David B. KAMALA IN ATLANTA & WITH OPRAH--ON FREEDOM: You all know the score about the dark, dystopian, and un-American future that Trump/Vance would bring us—a dictatorship from day 1. You also know Kamala’s positions on the critical issues, but more importantly know her character, optimism, and joy she brings to our country, focused on increasing our FREEDOMS. My goal in these weekly posts has been to provide sourced topics, not my opinion. Today: Kamala's visit with Oprah & her speech in Atlanta on the preventable deaths of Amber Thurman & Candi Miller in Atlanta. · WATCH IT! Kamala’s 90 minute Town Hall with Oprah 9/19 addressed the preventable deaths of 2 women in Georgia that were the result of Trump’s abortion ban, and responsible gun safety. It was a powerful 1:1 and questions from 1000 people attending, many representing over 100 affinity groups support Harris/Walz (Source 1, YouTube of Town Hall); 2,000,000 views; Source 2 also) · Kamala’s 20 Minute Speech in Atlanta on Reproductive Freedom 9/20 is on YouTube(Source 3). A few highlights: · "It is fight for freedom—freedom is ours by right, including the fundamental freedom of a woman to make decisions about her own body and not have the government tell her what to do. We need to trust women.” · "One does not have to abandon their faith to have reproductive freedom; she will talk with her pastor and doctor" · "1 in 3 women in America live in a state with a Trump abortion ban; all states in South except Virginia; these bans can put a doctor in prison for 10+ years" · "In Georgia, Amber Thurman died because of the Trump abortion ban; her doctor had to wait until she is at death’s door, in pain for 20 hours, with sepsis, before they can help her—it was too late; she died"; so did Candi Miller · "Amber is not just a statistic—she should be alive today; it was preventable, and predictable" · "Suffering is happening every day in America by women; made to feel like criminals, that they are alone; we see you; you are not alone; we are standing with you. You are NOT alone" · "The irony is that Republicans are telling you that you can’t have an abortion, you can’t have IVF to start a family, and they are going to ban contraception as well" Sources: 1) Unite for America Rally with Vice President Kamala Harris and Oprah Winfrey, https://lnkd.in/e5TTC8mq 2) Joan Walsh, The Diversity of Harris’ Supporters Was on Display at Oprah’s Town Hall, The Nation, September 20, 2024, https://lnkd.in/edFpsYwR 3) Reproductive Freedom Rally in Atlanta: Women Died From Trump’s Extreme Abortion Ban https://lnkd.in/eQj7n4AJ

Today is Juneteenth Day. Juneteenth Day, also known as Emancipation Day, is to commemorate the day enslaved people in Texas, learned of the Emancipation Proclamation, 2.5 years after the change in legal status of 3.5 million African Americans from enslaved to free. However, we have work to do to ensure reparations, justice, and true freedom is achieved. Here are some activities you and your organization can do to help: ❤️Donate to organizations centered around racial equity and justice ❤️Support Black-owned businesses ❤️Educate yourself on the history of Juneteenth, of colonialism, slavery, systems of oppression ❤️Introspect on your role and how you can take steps towards reparations ❤️Take action by boosting social media posts you resonate with, sharing your learnings with loved ones, or by joining a civil rights advocacy organization Please also see this guide, co-developed by ALA and Chezie in 2022, for more resources and suggestions for your orgs: https://lnkd.in/gkNAnY2D #Juneteenth #emancipationday #black #blackandasian #solidarity Design: @bogrodstd
