Creating a sense of belonging for all of our people is a central tenet of our firm. This includes all of our transgender, nonbinary, gender-expansive and other LGBTQ+ colleagues. We stand with them. #TransDayofVisibility In the last five years, our lawyers have contributed more than 13,600 hours of pro bono services for LGBTQ+ causes on behalf of 70+ clients. This month, let’s not just celebrate Pride. Let’s RADIATE Pride! In many ways, this is a tough moment for the Queer community. Extremists forces are trying to dim our light. But even in the moments that feel overwhelming and filled with doubt, we can still demonstrate solidarity and unity. We can speak up and speak out. And like we have always done, we can outshine and persevere. Here’s what you can do: 🌈To those who identify as LGBTQ+: Radiate Pride by wrapping yourself in our community. Queer joy is powerful. Queer resilience is real. When we work together, our community is unstoppable. 🌈To company and organization leaders: Radiate Pride by focusing on the future. Right now, it may seem easy to downplay and deprioritize the values of DEI. I’d ask you to look past this moment—and lean into what’s ahead. 🌈To allies: Remember, you have an important role to play in pushing our movement forward. Radiate Pride by supporting the LGBTQ+ community all year round. Together, we can build a world where everyone belongs. As we near the end of Pride Month, we look forward to continuing to bring awareness to the benefits and need for inclusivity in the boardroom. Let's continue to promote diversity, equity, and acceptance in our governance practices, ensuring every voice is heard and valued. We admire the work of the Association of LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors and value their participation on the NACD Center for Inclusive Governance’s advisory council. https://ow.ly/k6XN50SmES4

Does #PrideMonth help raise enough awareness about LBGTQ+ issues? 69% of the readers of our publisher Yahoo said ‘No’ and we also agree that waving the rainbow flag just for one month a year is definitely not enough. Is it important to dedicate an entire month to the achievements and challenges of the LGBTQ+ community? Yes. Is it equally important to address these things the rest of the year? Also yes. LGBTQ+ issues go beyond Pride Month. Because as we see in the results of the surveys, the rights and freedoms of LGBTQ+ people are still not a given and in many people’s opinion are once again under threat. It is therefore important to show awareness and support beyond Pride Month. Because in reality, every month is Pride Month.

No Credit Union Left Behind | Passionate Advocate for Financial Empowerment | Data and Research Geek | CU Lover for Life | Purpose Chaser | Changemaker
Be an ally. Be Kind. We ALL have one thing in common, we are all human beings first. Yet, so many different people continue to experience discrimination for a multitude of reasons. Financial wellness in the LBGTQ+ community face unique challenges and setbacks-- we all deserve to have access to financial products and services in an equitable environment. The 2024 LGBTQ+ Financial Wellness Report's key findings are a rude awakening that there is much work to be done for better financial inclusion. *Roughly half (48.15) of LGBTQ+ adults say they are financially unwell, compared to one-quarter (25.7%) of the general public. Both BIPOC and younger (age 18-24) LGBTQ+ adults are even more likely to say they are financially unwell. *Three in ten (30.8%) LGBTQ+ adults say they have experienced discrimination while accessing financial services *Roughly half (48.15) of LGBTQ+ adults say they are financially unwell, compared to one-quarter (25.7%) of the general public. *Nearly 60% (59.7%) of LGTBQ+ adults have annual household incomes below $75,000. "The data underscore the need for our economic empowerment programs, especially for younger BIPOC LGBTQ+ folks. I hope the data are a call to action for organizations serving our community. Given what we know about who is struggling the most, these organizations have an opportunity to center BIPOC young adults by being culturally responsive, trauma informed, and offering voice and choice to young people.” Maruka Rivers, Director of Economic Empowerment Programs at the Human Rights Campaign Foundation How is your credit union being an ally? If not, reach out and get involved.

An excellent post on how, Allies, corporations and those in the community can work to continue to move forward on progress in spite of the negative forces confronting us. Now more than ever, companies need to double down on and publically reinforce their commitments to diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace policies and positions. Those that do will attract and retain the top talent needed to take them into a successful future.
