It was fulfilling to discover our ancient Indian knowledge systems. What pleased me the most was the autonomy that teachers had in those times. From curriculum to selection of students, the teachers were much more in - charge of the day to day affairs of teaching. Today it seems teachers are mere instruments of educational institutions, whose job is to finish a certain syllabus in a stipulated time. So much opportunity is going unutilised. In our ASIST #programmes, we focus on 21st Century Skills across #schools. The #world is ever evolving, and at an unprecedented pace. However, in a country like #India, rich with #tradition, #diversity and a variety of #cultures, we also believe in synthesising older #customs with the new. This year, Dr. Pramila Kudva helped us examine the ways in which the National Curriculum Framework of India uses many ancient #Indian thoughts as #foundation. "The NEP has highlighted a few relevant ancient Indian #concepts prevalent in the #teaching #learning process," she explains, "The concepts were connected to the modern #techniques of teaching. Six Pramanas were linked to Kolbe’s experiential learning module. It makes me happy to share these ideas so we can appreciate the richness of Ancient Indian #system of #education and relate it to Kolbe’s cycle. Importance of questioning was established through #stories. Panchadi, the 5 step learning #process was analysed briefly. Educational #implications were pointed out."

This #Swadhyaya : Swa(self)+ Adhyāya(study). Swadhyaya in its literal translation is a study of the self aimed at attaining the Self. True #education is that which prevails through one’s life. Formal education only guides one's entry into the real process of educating oneself to make a well-founded life. Thus a true guru will always direct a student to remain a student and never neglect self-study.
