Curious about how to sail through the night while maintaining speed? Jonas Hallberg has perfected the technique. We caught up with the skipper of JPK 10.30 Hinden during the Silverrudder in Svendborg to get an inside look at how he approaches such a demanding race. His key to success? Preparation—especially when it comes to balancing sleep and sail management. Like Hallberg says, "The best prep is to get plenty of rest the day before. Don't slack off, keep those sails trimmed!" #NorthSails #SilverrudderChallenge #Sailing #Fyn 🎥 Liquid Words - Marine Communications

How does a sailboat winch work? A winch uses the principles of torque and tension to apply a force: a sheet (line or rope) is wound round the winch drum, then is secured to prevent from coming loose. A hand crank is inserted into place at top, then the user rotates the crank in clockwise or counterclockwise direction to pull in the line. Sounds simple, right? The machine that makes this magic is anything but. Here's a view of what's inside a smaller winch from a 1981 Catalina 22 sailboat. 📸 @Stingy Sailor #sailboatparts #winch #sailboatboat #mechanicsofsailing #maintenance

You can also edit the inside curve of a frame (e.g. in the case of high local loading). In a sailing boat this would allow chain-plate knees etc. In a power boat probably cater of things like flap-down gunnels/deck extenders etc.
