Molecular Characterization of Human CNS-Associated Macrophages Researchers characterized macrophages associated with the human central nervous system (CNS), known as CNS-associated macrophages (CAMs), by employing single-cell multi-omics and spatially resolved transcriptomic techniques on anatomically dissected CNS interface tissues from normal, fetal, and glioblastoma-affected brains. Through the analysis of turnover rates in CAMs and microglia in glioblastoma-affected and prenatal tissues following stem cell transplantation, the study, published in Nat Med https://lnkd.in/dN-QEq5u, illuminated the developmental phenotypes of these cells in patients. This groundwork sets the stage for potential replacement therapies. #genetics #genomics #precisionmedicine #genomicmedicine #brain #neurology #neuroscience #neurodegeneration #development #neurodevelopment #regenerativemedicine #cancer #braincancer #omics #singlecell #multiomics #biomarkers #therapeutics #innovation #research #science #sciencecommunication

We are moving closer to the era of personalized medicine where treatment could be as precise as the conditions they aim to cure. What new models of CNS diseases might we need to consider for future research, Andrés D. Klein?
