Almost 5 Years after its launch🚀, here comes the new release of the EPiC✨ Database📚 and its related tools🔧. A quick reminder: the EPiC✨ Database📚 is the only database of hybrid embodied environmental flows🔀 coefficients for construction🏗 materials in the world🌎🌍🌏. It combines detailed industry🏭 data with macro-economic💰 data to provide a complete💯 coverage of material supply chains⛓, on a material basis (e.g. 1 m³ of 25 MPa concrete, 1 m² of paint, etc.). 🌟Key features of what Robert C., Fabian Prideaux and myself have been working on lately include: 🟢125‼ new construction🏗 products bringing the total to 409 (up from 284, or +44% 📈) 🟢New EPiC✨ Grasshopper🦗 plugin version (with all new materials, faster⏩, and compatible with Rhino🦏 8) 🟢New epicdb python🐍 package📦 integrating the latest EPiC✨ Database📚 We added 94🙌 new concrete products, including additional variants for alternative↪ concrete products that include fly ash🌋 and ground granulated blast-furnace slag, with products now ranging from 10-60% supplementary cementitious material content. We also added 5 geopolymer concrete products and multiple other materials, including adobe🟫, rammed earth🌏, straw bale🌾, strawboard🟨, hempcrete block☘, cellulose-cement block🔲, magnesium oxide board⬜, and polyester insulation⚗. We’re always looking to expand↔ the range of products contained within the EPiC✨ Database📚, so please get in touch for additional➕ products that you would like to see added: epic@unimelb.edu.au ▶ Access the EPiC✨ Database📚 from https://lnkd.in/e46X926N 🔽 Download EPiC✨ Grasshopper🦗 from: https://lnkd.in/eiwbdDf2 🔽 Install the epicdb python🐍 package📦 from pypi: https://lnkd.in/e9wiFPRR #construction #architecture #embodiedcarbon #climatechange #greenbuilding #property #buildings #climatechange
A M A Z I N G André, Robert and Fabian! What impresses me the most is that this has been done on a reasonable budget and by a committed but small team. If funders or governments put their minds to it we could solve the data scarcity challenge in the built environment in few years and at global scale!
Great work on this. Imperative that we have the EPIC hybrid model alongside EPDs. Both have their place and one will keep the other honest!
Well done Andre and team 😊
Really very cool André Stephan all the work that you and the team have done with this tool and the open-source nature and access, congratulations. Have you (or anyone else) yet looked at a comparison of this hybrid model applied to Aotearoa New Zealand where they have the also awesome BRANZ LCAQuick, being purely a process approach (but as detailed and accurate as you might find anywhere in the world) to understand where differences are most likely to be found? I realise that I am asking you to apply your model to another country and its data, but I am just intrigued to know if this work is ever likely to be done as some sort of verification, perhaps better said as benchmarking of the model? Thanks again.
Fantastic!! And amazing and impressive to see how far this has progressed since the early days when we old ones were talking about embodied carbon... I look forward to browsing this André Stephan Robert C. Fabian Prideaux (luckily I have a train journey coming up 😀 )
What are the license terms on the data?
so cool!
That's epic !! :) Congrats team!
An essential AU resource! Thank you for the update and sharing, an important part of currency in improving business as usual. Arianna Brambilla & Eugenia Gasparri this list is getting longer.
