As we dive into the warmer months, pool safety becomes more crucial than ever. Whether it's a refreshing morning swim or a lively weekend pool party, ensuring everyone's safety can make all the difference to prevent accidents and injuries. Here are key tips to keep in mind: Supervision is Key: Always have a responsible adult supervising pool activities, especially when children are swimming. Drowning can occur silently and quickly. Teach Water Safety: Ensure that everyone in the family knows how to swim. Consider enrolling in swimming lessons if you or your loved ones are not confident swimmers. Install Barriers: A fence with a self-closing, self-latching gate around your pool can prevent unsupervised access by children. Keep Rescue Equipment and a Phone Handy: In case of an emergency, having a life ring, rope, and a charged phone close to the pool can be lifesaving. Establish and Enforce Rules: No running, no diving in shallow water, and no swimming alone are good starting points. Clear rules help prevent accidents. Regular Maintenance: Keep your pool water clean and chemically balanced to prevent illnesses. Ensure that drains are covered properly to avoid entrapments. Remember, pool safety is everyone's responsibility. By taking these precautions, we can ensure that our poolside experiences are not only fun but safe for everyone involved. Dive in, swim safe, and enjoy the sun! ☀️🏊♂️👙 #PoolSafety #SwimSafe #SummerSafety #PersonalInjury #PersonalInjuryLawyer

Swimming lessons are an essential layer of protection, but layers only work when used together. To keep our little ones safer, we need to combine multiple safety measures, including: - Barriers: Secure pools and water areas properly using > 48-inch fencing with a self-closing and self-latching gate. - Active Supervision (3Cs - Close, Constant, Capable): Always keep a watchful eye on children in or near the water. - Water Competency: It’s never too early to get children in Swim Lessons! - Life Jackets: Use them when necessary, especially in open waters or when boating. - Emergency Preparedness: Know what to do in an emergency or if you see someone in distress in the water. Together, these 5 layers offer multiple points of protection for our loved ones. Let's ensure every splash is a safer one! #5layersofprotection #watersafetymonth #drownalliance #ndpa

Swimming beaches are a fantastic way to enjoy the summer but it’s important to know what hazards lay beneath the surface of the water. Drop-offs are where shallow water quickly slopes off into deeper parts of the lake. They can occur near the shore or further out in the water, making them difficult to predict. These areas are dangerous to any swimmer - especially children - who can suddenly find themselves in much deeper water, leading to panic. They can also create strong currents which are not visible and can pull swimmers down or away from safety. toronto.ca/BeachSafety National Drowning Prevention Week | July 21-27 #NDPW2024 Descriptive video transcript: Two lifeguards are on the beach with Lake Ontario behind them. Both lifeguards have sunglasses perched on top of their heads and they are waving hello. "Hello everyone. Today we're going to be talking about drop-offs" One of the lifeguards is now solo on the beach and gesturing to the water behind him. "Now, although the water looks flat the ground underneath is actually quite uneven." The second lifeguard is now solo on the beach and she is backing up into the water to demonstrate hidden and sudden changes in the depth of the water. "It can go from really shallow to knee deep, or even more. This is really, really deep!" Both lifeguards return together on the beach. The lifeguard on the left speaks first. "Now, before you go in the water, make sure you proceed with caution." The second lifeguard speaks in conclusion of the video and then both wave goodbye. "And if you have any questions, you can always ask a lifeguard."

Top 50 Most Inspiring Teachers in Africa | Early Childhood Educator | Child Protection Practitioner | Swim Instructor | Radio Host | Community Volunteer
As a certified swim instructor through the Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) and the United States Swim School Association (USSSA), I have been actively involved in drowning prevention efforts in my community by teaching families how to swim and be water safe. Swimming is one of the most effective ways to prevent drowning; those who can swim are significantly less likely to drown than those who cannot swim. This year, I took part in the walk to raise awareness about Drowning Prevention Day, which is observed annually on July 25th. It was an important opportunity to educate the public about water safety and highlight ways to avoid drowning incidents. Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury deaths globally. Let us prevent this by making sure that... 🏊🏽 Children should be closely supervised around any water, with a designated "water watcher" to ensure constant visual contact. 🏊🏽 Ensure that everyone, especially non-swimmers, wears a properly fitted life jacket. 🏊🏽 Install barriers, such as pool fences, to prevent unsupervised access. 🏊🏽 Learn CPR so you can respond quickly in an emergency situation. 🏊🏽 Swim in designated, lifeguard-supervised areas and be aware of water hazards such as rip currents. 💙 Most importantly, take swimming lessons to develop essential water safety skills. Drowning Can Be Prevented...Be Water Safe! #DrowningPreventionWeek2024 #DrowningIsPreventable #WaterSafetyAwareness

This guy loves summer and swimming, as do most of us. We don’t want to be a buzzkill, but please remember just a few quick pool safety tips: • Always supervise children and pets near the pool, even if they know how to swim. • Install a fence around the pool area with a self-closing gate to prevent unauthorized access. • Keep lifesaving equipment, like a ring buoy or shepherd's hook, near the pool at all times. • Teach everyone in the household basic water safety skills, including how to float and call for help. • Avoid running or horseplay around the pool to minimize the risk of slips and falls. #TrustPointInsuranceandRealEstate #picoftheweek

Tomorrow is World Drowning Prevention Day (25th July) and as a regular open water swimmer myself, I know all too well the importance of being safe in the water. So I want to use today’s #Move post to educate others, encourage you all to get involved in spreading the word and to play my part in raising awareness of drowning prevention. Did you know? ⚠️ On average 400 people drown in the UK every year. The National Water Safety Forum (NWSF) believes that this figure could be halved by 2026 with preventative strategies and educational campaigns around water safety. So with holiday season upon us, here are some top tips to help keep you (and your family) safe in the water: 💙 Never swim alone 💙 Always wear brightly coloured swimwear and hats (think Zesty colours!) 💙 If someone is struggling in the water, do not jump in, instead phone 999 💙 Ensure children are always supervised near water 💙 If swimming in open water, check conditions before entering the water 💙 Only swim where permitted 💙 If sea swimming, swim parallel to the shore 💙 If you find yourself struggling in the water, lay on your back and float 💙 Never dive into unfamiliar water 💙 Swim sober And remember, when in doubt - get out! #5pillarsofvitality #move #drowning #watersafety #worlddrowningpreventionday #drowningprevention #respectthewater #ILS
