Companies are increasingly looking for individuals with a diverse skill set in areas like social media marketing, digital advertising, SEO, and graphic design for several reasons: 1. **Cost Efficiency**: Hiring a multi-skilled individual can be more cost-effective than hiring several specialists. This reduces payroll expenses and simplifies management. 2. **Integrated Strategies**: A person who understands multiple areas can create more cohesive and integrated marketing strategies. They can align social media campaigns with SEO and advertising efforts, ensuring a more unified brand message. 3. **Flexibility and Adaptability**: The digital landscape is constantly changing. Professionals who possess a broad range of skills can quickly adapt to new trends and technologies, allowing companies to remain competitive. 4. **Better Communication**: When one person handles multiple roles, communication becomes easier. There’s less chance of misalignment or misunderstanding between different departments or team members. 5. **Holistic Understanding**: A professional with knowledge in various domains can see the bigger picture. They can identify how different marketing channels influence each other and optimize campaigns accordingly. 6. **Innovation and Creativity**: Diverse skills foster creativity. A marketer who understands graphic design might develop more visually appealing content, while someone with SEO knowledge can ensure that content is also discoverable. 7. **Resource Constraints**: Many companies, especially startups and small businesses, may not have the budget to hire multiple specialists. A versatile employee helps them maximize their resources. 8. **Faster Implementation**: Having one person manage multiple aspects of marketing can speed up project timelines, as fewer handoffs are needed and decisions can be made more quickly. Overall, companies are looking for adaptable talents who can contribute to various facets of their marketing strategy, driving efficiency and innovation in their campaigns. NB see the notable disadvantages on the next post.

Some marketing jobs' "duties and responsibilities" are hilariously bad, so I had to share one from a larger local business. Below are some of the responsibilities for this position: Digital Marketing Specialist Full Time 55k ✅ Maintain, update and create website content. (Web Developer) ✅Create marketing videos.....Find B-roll, trending audio, visual effects... (Video Editor/Producer) ✅Create virtual events as needed ..... (Events Manager) ✅Act as Editor/Producer for.....(Editor) ✅Produce and design engaging digital advertising campaigns...(Performance Marketer) ✅Monitor online marketing and advertising trends and recommends new technologies and enhancements (Marketing Operations Analyst) ✅Responsible for the design and layout of materials, including flyers, posters, postcards, banners, (Graphic Designer) ✅Serve as the company photographer (Photographer) ✅Serve as the company presentation designer (Little bit of everything) ✅Develop distinctive logos (Logo Designer) ✅Build campaigns, manage audiences and track performance of e-newsletters in email software. (Email Marketing Manager) ✅Assist with standard operations of the Marketing and Communications department including writing, proofreading and editing. (Copywriter) ✅Monitor social media routinely (Social Media Manager) We may know people that can do the above (and that's a special person), but it sure as hell isn't worth 55k. Also, isn't your brand worth more to you than loading one person up with more responsibilities than they can handle? Their failure is your brand's failure. If you have this many marketing needs, here are two options. 1 - Hire a team of marketers who have the specific skillsets to help you achieve your goals. Not one person who it all lands on. 2- Hire an agency who can handle this level of need. Bell Media Group handles 90% of the above with specialists in each area. Our average clients pay around 60k annually for us to help them, and they get access to our entire team/technology stack. But what do you think? Marketers - would you take this job? Is it worth hiring an agency? Do agencies suck to work with? Are employees the only way to go? Would love to hear your opinion below.

In-House vs. External Agencies: The Hilarious Truth Thinking about hiring an external branding agency? Here’s the tea ☕: In-house teams are like family—they know your brand inside out, but sometimes they’re too close to the problem. External agencies? They’re the cool aunt/uncle who shows up with fresh ideas and leaves before things get messy. Why offload tasks like logo design, graphics, and analytics to an agency? ✅ Free up your team for big-picture thinking. ✅ Avoid the tunnel vision trap (looking at you, marketing managers). ✅ Scale effortlessly without hiring 10 new people. ✅ Escape the groupthink vortex and inject some much-needed creativity. So, what’s it gonna be? The comfort of in-house or the boldness of external? Let’s debate in the comments! 👇 #Branding #Marketing #AgencyLife #InHouseVsAgency #CreativeThinking

Most companies can’t afford the marketing they need and deserve. We get it. You want to build an internal team. A dedicated group of professionals that will devote all of their working hours to the company. Here’s what the internal team might (should?) look like: 🧠 CMO 🎨 Creative Director 🎥 Production Designer/Motion Graphics Designer 🧰 Marketing Ops Lead 🤖 Marketing Automation Lead ✍ Content Writer (maybe 2) 📣 Social Media Community Manager 🎉 Events Coordinator Add up all those salaries and benefits, and you're easily stretching close to $1 million. For a midsized or boutique professional services firm, that's a nonstarter. Worse—you’ll probably get at least one of those hires wrong (we all do). Like that $2 million beach house, we can’t afford what we want (need). Solution? Rent some of those skills. Build a small internal team that knows your business. And then rent the rest of what you want. When you outsource some of the work to a marketing agency, you give yourself flexibility. And if you choose wisely, you gain a partner committed to your success 😉
