On the heels of recent reports that ratings for the National Hockey League (NHL)'s Vegas Golden Knights television broadcasts have more than doubled since moving from Bally Sports to free-to-air broadcast, the writing is seemingly on the wall for RSNs. Beyond the exorbitant costs of subscribing to an RSN either DTC or through a traditional MVPD/vMVPD platform, the fact that the Bally Sports streaming apps are laced with bugs and stability issues should be reason-enough for sport leagues to pull the plug and move the games to broadcast partners. #rsn #ballysports #ota #streaming #sports #sport #regionalsportsnetworks
100%, I want this to be screamed from the mountaintops! I'm locked into a Comcast cable package here in Atlanta literally only because I gotta have my Braves games. And the draconian legacy MLB broadcast rights ecosystem makes any other option either impossible or cost prohibitive. It's a fantastic way to alienate fans!
100% agree, and don't get me started on blackout markets. I live in KC, but because of the St. Louis Blue's rights to the KC markets, I have to have ballys if I want to watch the Avalanche anytime they play St. Louis.
