I've spent over $500k on Influencer marketing, here are some tactics to NEGOTIATE THE BEST PRICE: 1. Reduced Platforms Most influencers post on the 3 main platforms (Tiktok/Instagram/Youtube). If one of the influencer's platforms clearly outperforms their other platforms, you can ask for a bundled pricing of all 3 platforms, then slowly strip away their worst performing platforms to get a lower price. Vice versa, if all 3 platforms perform well, you can ask for individual platform pricing and then bundle all the platforms together for a lower price. 2. Exclusivity/Non-compete Exclusivity means that the influencer can't do a brand deal with a competitor in a certain timeframe immediately after yours. Generally, you can ask for 7 days or 30-day exclusivity. IMO, unless exclusivity is important to your brand, I mostly use it as a negotiation tactic as something to "strip away" when lowering the price. 3. Link-in-bio If you are paying for a sponsored post on short-form platforms (IG/TikTok), most viewers will not click on the link-in-bio. As a result, many brands have removed it as a requirement for creators to have. However, I still recommend to include it as a link-in-bio can act as another negotiation tactic as something to "strip away" when lowering the price. Here's a quick dive into the dollars and cents of marketing in 2024. Instagram Ads vs Micro-Influencers? Which yields a better return on ad spend (ROAS) in 2024? Let's find out. As of February 2024, the average CPM (cost per thousand impressions) for Instagram Ads is $5.98. That means it costs around $6 for your ads to be seen 1,000 times or by 1,000 people. On the other hand, here's the average cost-per-post by influencers in 2024: Nano influencers (500-10,000 followers) $10-$100 per post Micro-influencers (10,000 to 50,000 followers) - $100 to $500 per post This will bring the CPM of influencers to an average of $10 (4 dollars higher than Instagram ads) But let's look at the results: The average click-through rate for Instagram Ads is 0.99%. This means that out of every 1,000 people that see your ad, you only get 1 click. Meanwhile, the average click-through rate for influencer marketing is 3%. This means you get 30 out of 1,000 people to click your ad. Lately, many advertisers are complaining about the quality of results they get on Facebook/Instagram Ads. The Raygunomics of influencer marketing In a couple of short weeks (even less), Raygun's Instagram following grew from the low 1,000's, to currently in the 160,000's and growing. By some influencer marketing tiering, that promotes her from a Nano-Influencer (1,000-10,000 followers), to a Mid-Tier Influencer (50,000-500k followers) - and perhaps even higher tiers in the coming weeks. From a monetisation standpoint, that takes her earning potential from US$10-$100 per post on Instagram (assuming she was even able to attract the interest of brands), to US$500-$5,000 per post (with presumably more upcoming interest from brands than she was ever previously capable of attracting - how about a ‘Spread the Vegemite’ breaking move?). Not to mention payment for posts and content on other platforms. In Australia, spending in the Influencer Advertising market is forecasted to reach US$522.60m in 2024. The annual growth rate (CAGR 2024-2029) is anticipated to be 10.85%, leading to a projected market volume of US$874.50m by 2029. Last year, I was on the hunt for an influencer agency and came across The Shelf Influencer Marketing Agency. Have you heard of them? If not, look them up right now! I believe in thoroughly investigating an agency before even initiating a conversation, so I started with their website. If you haven't checked it out, you should. Their site is quirky and fun, but more importantly, every visit offered something new. They provide all kinds of gems, from engaging infographics to fun social media calendars. My favorite find was their guide, "How to Set Your Influencer Marketing Budget." It's the perfect piece of content to share with someone who thinks they want to start engaging influencers but really have no idea what it entails (*cough* C-suite). We ultimately decided not to invest in influencer marketing (right call), so I didn't get the chance to work with The Shelf. However, I was impressed enough to keep them on my radar and regularly engage with their content. They have no idea who I am, but I'm one of their biggest fans. Check out the chart below: Here’s a breakdown from the survey: ⚫ 48% earned less than $15,000. ⚫ 9% earned between $15,000 and $25,000. ⚫ 7% earned between $25,000 and $35,000. ⚫ 5% earned between $35,000 and $50,000. ⚫ 11% earned between $50,000 and $75,000. ⚫ 5% earned between $75,000 and $100,000. ⚫ 6% earned between $100,000 and $150,000. ⚫ 7% earned $200,000 or more. Based on those numbers, the median salary for TikTok influencers is somewhere between $15,000 and $25,000.
