The Circular Economy presents a sustainable solution by emphasizing the reuse of resources, a concept that is gaining recognition globally. Despite its benefits, transitioning to this model requires a fundamental shift in how we produce, consume, and dispose of goods. To facilitate this transition, major industry players are spearheading the Global Circularity Protocol for Business (GCP). This initiative aims to establish a universal standard to assess and quantify the effectiveness of circular business practices. By adopting the GCP, companies can streamline their operations, reduce waste, and contribute to a more sustainable future. ♻ Transitioning to a circular economy is a journey many companies are undertaking, but how do we measure our progress along the way? Here are a few tools which might benefit you on your journey: 1️⃣Circular Transition Indicators (CTI): Developed by WBCSD, CTI helps businesses assess their circular performance across various dimensions, setting baselines, monitoring progress, and responding to stakeholder inquiries. 2️⃣ Circulytics: Offered by the Ellen Macarthur Foundation, Circulytics measures a company's circular performance comprehensively, including overall scores, breakdowns by category, and historical benchmarks. 3️⃣ Madaster Circularity Indicator (MAD): This tool focuses on material use, assessing reuse and recycling potential to keep materials in a loop of utility. It considers factors like expected lifetime and future recyclability. 4️⃣ 'CirculAbility' Model: This model evaluates circularity based on five pillars, focusing on flow circularity and circularity of use. It aims to quantify resource circularity and its contribution to reducing virgin material use. 5️⃣ ISO/TC 323: ISO's technical committee for circular economy standardization works on frameworks, guidance, and tools to implement circular activities, covering production, distribution, consumption, and societal impacts. Measuring circularity is essential as businesses strive to make informed decisions on products, manufacturing, and recycling. These tools provide valuable insights, helping companies navigate the transition to a more circular economy. #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #decadeofaction 🌍💡 For more in depth insights read here:

The report, a collaborative effort by Cradlenet and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, is the first broad survey of its kind, examining the strategies, motivations, and needs of Nordic companies as they navigate the shift toward circularity. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 🌍 Circular economy is gaining significant traction - 86% of the surveyed companies have integrated circular principles into their business strategies, marking a considerable increase from previous years. However, only 4 out of 10 companies have set specific circular goals and initiated implementation, highlighting a crucial gap between ambition and action. 💡 Business opportunities, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and customer pressure drive the transition - Companies recognize the economic and environmental benefits of circularity, with business opportunities being the primary motivator. 📈 Measurable targets are critical for success - Companies that set measurable goals and track progress are significantly more likely to execute their circular strategies. ♻️ REDUCE and RECYCLE are the most popular strategies - These strategies often require minimal changes to existing business models and are therefore more readily adopted. 💡 REGENERATE, REMAKE, and RETHINK are underutilized - Despite offering significant opportunities for differentiation and financial gains, these strategies are less commonly implemented. 🌱 Circular procurement needs a boost - While 70% of companies impose some form of circular requirements in their purchases, only 15% do so for most of their procurement. 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬: 1) Set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound targets and systematically measure progress for circular initiatives. 2) Integrate circular requirements into procurement forms and sourcing policies to stimulate circularity throughout the value chain. 3) Explore servitization models like subscription, sharing, and performance agreements to align producer and customer incentives for circular value creation. 4) Invest in developing circular capabilities, especially in the technology and financial sectors, to gain a competitive edge as circularity becomes increasingly important. By embracing circular principles, companies can unlock economic opportunities, mitigate environmental impact, and gain a competitive advantage in an evolving market. Very interesting report! It provides a solid overview of how Circular Economy (CE) is perceived in businesses. I especially liked two key points: - The analysis of the gap between the ambition to apply CE strategies and their execution. It appears that everyone claims to be ahead and doing great, while in reality, only 4 out of 10 businesses have specific, measurable goals. As the report mentions, "If you measure, you do; otherwise, you don't." - The belief that 79% of competitors will develop significant circular capabilities within the next 5 years. Again, everyone talks about "Strategy and Execution," "Ability to make strategic decisions," etc., but ultimately, we leave these bold choices to our competitors. A huge congrats to RISE Research Institutes of Sweden and Cradlenet, and to all the researchers and contributors who made this report possible. Well done, Michel Bajuk and Marcus Linder! Personal note: I loved the fluency and clarity of the writing. It’s direct, to the point, and also thought-provoking. Congrats! #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #BusinessStrategy #SustainableDevelopment #StrategicExecution
