📜 I’ve just received my completion certificate for this incredible internship, and I couldn’t be more excited! This past month has been a whirlwind of learning and hands-on experience, and I’m so grateful for the chance to dive into some really cool projects at National Institute of Ocean Technology. 🔬 Working with brilliant scientists and engineers, my teammates VISWA M and Infant Jevin S , and I got to explore the fascinating world of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) and Low-Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) systems. We conducted detailed mechanical analyses on various materials and looked into their applications in these cutting-edge systems. 💡 Here are some highlights from what we worked on: ->Examined the mechanical properties of flash chambers made from different materials (Structural steel, Aluminum Alloy, Grey cast iron) used in OTEC and LTTD systems with ANSYS. ->Did comparative studies and recommended titanium as the best material for flash chambers. ->Evaluated how structural steel, aluminum alloy, and grey cast iron perform under different load conditions using advanced simulations. ->Investigated the potential of OTEC and LTTD systems for sustainable energy and freshwater production. ->Analyzed the crucial role of winch systems in deploying and maintaining oceanographic equipment, improving operational efficiency and safety. I want to give a huge shoutout to Dr. N. R. Ramesh, Dr. V. Samson Packiaraj, Mr. Karthikeyan Avudaiyappan, and the entire NIOT team for their incredible support and mentorship. 🔍 Exploring the Intricacies Inside a Generator's Cabin During my internship, I had the privilege to uncover the workings within the cabin of a main generator, a domain teeming with heavy machinery designed to manage substantial current loads. Delving into the heart of this machinery, I discovered the control panel—an essential apparatus housing various checks and measures. Within this control panel resides a crucial checker/controller unit that monitors vital parameters: engine oil levels, coolant measures, engine temperature, and potential faults in the generator's governor and alternator. This panel serves as a hub where intricate defects can be swiftly identified, and it's fascinating how most ECE students, including myself, actively engage in understanding and working on this critical control system. While the engine primarily caters to mechanical engineering, my intrigue and passion led me to explore the totality of this remarkable machine. 🎥 A Glimpse Into the Field: Exploring a 1200 KV Generator at ECR Site Today, I'm thrilled to share a video showcasing our visit to an ECR site featuring a 1200 KV generator—an engineering marvel that generates immense current. This 6-piston engine, equipped with cutting-edge water coolant technology, exemplifies the fusion of engineering brilliance and innovative solutions. During my summer internship at Petrogas in the Heat Treatment Department, I gained important practical experience in the energy industry. The training focused on the thermal and mechanical applications used in gas processing and refining, which enhanced my understanding of how to design and operate highly efficient heat treatment systems. 🔹The most important thing I learned: Learn about heat treatment mechanisms and systems in factories. Mechanical engineering applications in the design and maintenance of processing equipment. Familiarity with standards and regulations for industrial process safety. We learned how to fill the cylinder, test it, and heat treat it to homogenize its atoms. We also learned how to do plasma cutting and welding methods. This experience was a great opportunity to enhance my technical and practical skills

"During my apprenticeship, my welding lecturer drummed professional registration into us at every opportunity he could. After being exposed to some high responsibility roles throughout my apprenticeship, I read up on the criteria for registration with The Welding Institute and my experience at that time. I was a registered Engineering Technician (EngTech) at the age of 19. As my career has progressed, it has remained important to me to keep myself accountable for my professional development, and ensure that I benchmark my progress with professional registration. It was because of this that I was able to be recognised as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) by the age of 25." In what ways has registration benefitted your career? "Being professionally registered opens up new avenues of training and professional development, and also gives you access to a wide community of like-minded engineers who can share resources and expertise on a particular subject. It also helps to build a professional network of peers through institution events." How does your employer benefit from your professional registration?
