Spatial designers Genevieve Ang and Georgina F. take a considered approach to the materials they utilise in their designs. Beauty and meaning are aspects they seek to imbue in the objects and spaces they create through their design practice, STUDIO GIN&G. But their minds are also focused on how they might experiment with materials to elevate the experience of a space and reduce its impact of the environment. Often, that means trying out alternative materials that clients and builders are unfamiliar with. Drawing on their empathy for the challenges faced by suppliers and contractors, as well as the hesitations of clients, Genevieve and Georgina use a collaborative approach to overcoming unknowns. Their spirit of experimentation often inspires other stakeholders in their projects to be bolder with their vision and delivery. You might have seen the results at bar and restaurant FURA (@fura.sg), which has a blue bar countertop made with fragments of recycled glass amalgamated into sheet form, and wall light sculptures constructed by layering with glass offcuts that have been trimmed into organic geometries. Swipe left to read about how curiosity, courage trust, and tenacity help GIN&G to shift expectations and venture into the unknown. – Organised by the DesignSingapore Council, People of Design celebrates the everyday visionaries who are delivering extraordinary impact through design. These innovators defy the stereotype that design is only for designers or that it is merely about aesthetics – it is a tool for positive change that is accessible to everyone. Know someone who’s making a difference through design? Nominate them at https://lnkd.in/g_FVhH-P for a chance to be featured. #DesignSingaporeCouncil #PeopleOfDesign

Milan Design Week. Here are my four takeaways: 01. The Art of Aesthetics. It goes without saying there was some beautiful work. The week showcased the skill designers have to create something beautiful through simple forms - often using natural materials to accentuate both details and overall silhouettes. 02. Stimulating Senses. The exhibits went beyond the physical products and extended the design to the space products hold - designing for the experience. Surrounding spaces were optimised through lighting, colour & sound to enhance both the product and immerse the user. 03. Considered Circularity. The growing consideration for materials, modularity and design for assembly & disassembly was evident. Particularly within furniture, which was the front runner for circularity. 04. Missing a Mission. If we look at Milan Design Week as a whole, although individuals produced beautiful work, I would challenge that if we want to do better by design, we need to collectively make changes as an industry towards a shared goal. #milandesignweek #industrialdesign

2025: The Year of Retro Designs and Minimalism As we step into 2025, the fusion of retro designs and minimalism is set to dominate the creative landscape. Minimalism, with its sleek lines and uncluttered aesthetics, continues to redefine what it means to be premium—less is more, and simplicity speaks volumes. Meanwhile, retro design brings a nostalgic touch, blending vintage charm with contemporary trends. Together, they create a perfect balance of elegance and timeless appeal. This harmonious blend of classical elements and modern simplicity will inspire brands and individuals to embrace sophistication in its purest form. Let 2025 be the year we celebrate the past while simplifying the future. . . . #RetroDesign #Minimalism #DesignTrends2025 #CreativeInnovation #TimelessDesign #PremiumAesthetics #ModernMeetsRetro #SimplicityInDesign #FutureOfDesign #DesignInspiration #VisualStorytelling #BrandIdentity #GraphicDesignCommunity #DesignForImpact #CreativeVision #linkedin #linkedincommunity

Year after year, the Milan Furniture Fair stands as a cornerstone in the design world, and this year, we had the privilege of experiencing it through the eyes of our friend and collaborator, Louis Berger. Attending the Salone del Mobile Milano presents an invaluable opportunity to connect with designers, suppliers, and peers in the industry, while also cultivating new relationships and adding exciting products to our furniture collection. Hosted at the Rho Fiera fairgrounds from April 16-21, this year’s Salone Milano showcased thought-provoking and innovative furniture designs from global designers. Unlike the past editions dominated by earth tones and safe designs, this year’s fair emphasized bold aesthetics, ingenuity, and sustainability, featuring materials that are kind to our planet. Over the next few days, we will share the stunning visuals captured by Louis Berger, highlighting the spectacle of this event and why missing it means missing out on a key fixture in the design calendar if you're not in Italy in April. Documentation was conducted at the following locations and exhibits: ADI Museum - Salone Exhibitions Aesop - Form Follow Formulation Audi - Reflaction BMW - Neue Klasse Bottega Veneta - Cassina x LeCorbusier Dibbern - Showcase 2024 Emeco to Emeco - Special Exhibition Flos - New Products 2024 #design #designeducation #industrialdesign #furniture #salonedelmobile

𝗦𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗠 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰: 𝗔 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁-𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 Another exciting edition of hashtag #SICAM has just come to a close, and once again, it has confirmed its growing relevance. The turnout was excellent, proving how this fair has become a key event for everyone in the design and furniture sector. SICAM isn’t the place to discover future trends, but it offers a clear snapshot of what’s working right now. Here, you can see what’s truly making a difference today, from materials to the most in-demand products. Personally, I noticed a certain caution among exhibitors. Perhaps due to the rumors of a possible market slowdown, there weren’t many bold or daring proposals. However, I understand the choice to stick with safer options in uncertain times. Overall, I’m happy with the experience and I’m already looking forward to next year! #Design #InteriorDesign #Furniture #SICAM #Fair #Marketing

The retail store for IDUS is drawn from the idea of blurring the boundaries between a space and its experience. Tadao Ando once said--"the walls and the floor come together as a monolith and hence disappear and what you’re left with is just the space to experience." The design intent comes to question the nature of space, volume, and perception to become an element of exploration. The store challenges conventional room definitions to craft an intimate, homely atmosphere within even the most expansive exhibition settings. The space's coherence is emphasized by a sprawling, unifying ceiling while floating walls form visual frames. Through an interplay of light and shadow, the store guides its visitors on a sensory journey, inviting them to engage with each furniture piece on a deeper level. Such architectural interventions alter the physical, sensorial, and temporal experience to immerse a person in the explorative urge and glance through the bespoke pieces from The brand. It allows for an open exploration of furniture and showcases it in an environment that gives it a dedicated background while the floating walls define its micro-level experience. #spatialdesign #artist #interiordesign #idus #FurnitureDesign
