💭 Mason Greenwood: Bring Him Back to Old Trafford? 🔴⚽ Let’s talk about one of the most polarising questions in football right now: Should Manchester United re-sign Mason Greenwood? After everything that’s happened—The, Allegations, The Video / Audio Recordings, The (now dropped) charges, the controversy, then take into account the fact that he's STILL with his girlfriend (and now expecting their second child)—is it time to move on, or is it time to give him another chance? 🤔 His move to Marseille has been eye-opening. With 8 Goals and 1 Assist in 11 (not full games) Appearances , he’s proving he’s still got the talent to deliver at the highest level. And let’s not forget, we’re desperate for attacking firepower right now. Can we really afford to ignore him any longer? But here’s the dilemma: Morality vs. Merit: Do we hold players to higher personal standards than others in society, or is talent the only thing that should matter on the pitch? Sid Panayi and I have published a joint piece on The GBE Expert Hub about the surprising news that Johannes Spors had his work permit rejected. Spors had been identified by Southampton Football Club as the man to replace Jason Wilcox as Sporting Director, but the 777 Partners global sporting director has been prevented from taking up that role. This has become a bigger issue to navigate post-Brexit. Nine of the current PL sporting directors are non-domestic, and overall 14 of them were appointed post-Brexit, so it is a modern issue, and one which may need revisiting by the powers-that-be. This whitepaper, authored by Christopher Allen, Andy Hughes, and Jack Rudgeley, explores the Football Governance Bill. If passed, this Bill will create the first independent statutory sporting regulator in the world. Is this the blueprint for clubs to operate long-term, or just a financial loophole that could backfire? We’ve seen Chelsea hand out 7-8 year deals, now City is doing the same. While it helps with FFP amortisation and commercial leverage, what happens if a player underperforms, gets injured, or loses motivation? Clubs could end up stuck with massive wages and no way out. Why did England fail to win the Euros and what can we learn from this?   We all have our own strengths and weaknesses. Focusing on your strengths and improving your weaknesses is the only way grow to the next level.   From a football perspective, I think Gareth Southgate and his overly cautious approach and more defensive style of play, was what limited England to being runners up twice.   To win a tournament, especially a final, you have to dominate your opposition and impose your style of play on them. With only 34% possession it was hard for England to get a foothold in the game, and they were reliant on just “nicking it” in the final minutes of the game, which was the negative way they had played throughout the whole tournament. It felt like the Managers’ weakness of being cautious, reflected in the way England played.   Being seen in the public domain, has always been my own fear and weakness. It might be hard to believe, but I am actually a very introverted and private person! To the point, where a couple of years ago, I even had to be convinced by colleagues to put my profile photo on Linkedin, never mind posting on here!   However, I knew I had to get away from this self-imposed limitation and accept that if Baked Earth is to become a household name, which has always been my aspiration, then I have to take centre stage and be more public. The next stage in the journey is for me to post a recorded video of me talking, which actually terrifies me! Yes, talking on camera is actually one of my major phobias!   In life, business and football, we have to confront our fears. Overcome our weaknesses. Take on our inner demons.   Or else, live with the regret, of what could have been.   The choice is yours. And yours alone.

Think it’s brilliant when clubs with clear principles and values stand by them. Most clubs and their leaders would crumble under the pressure of a manager demanding more in these types of situations. Brighton recently parted ways with DZ due to a disagreement on transfer strategy. The question now is whether the club should adjust given all DZ achieved in the last two years, or should DZ have accepted the club's tradition and values in the transfer market? It's interesting to compare Brighton's approach to other clubs like Chelsea and United, with no clear identity around the transfer market. They're like kids in a sweet shop, 'throw it in the bag and hope it works'. But only the next manager doesn't like those sweets and throws them out for some newer, tastier treats. Whereas, Brighton have a structured system where they sign young players pre-premier league ability, develop and sell them. In my opinion, if a coach has proven themselves capable of increasing the club's success and subsequently their riches, they should get more say in all aspects of the club. It's the only way the Klopp's, Simeone's and Fergie's are made. What do you think? Should Brighton have adjusted to DZ's strategy or should DZ have accepted the club's values?
