Recently I had the opportunity to attend a community event in which residential treatment was discussed. As this was being discussed someone made a comment about "30 days doesn't do the trick". While we could debate the idea of how long residential programs could be, I believe it would be more productive if we changed the narrative of looking at residential and outpatient services as separate courses of treatment. We should look at the various levels of care as a single course of treatment. Outpatient can lead to residential, if needed, but residential should ALWAYS be followed up with outpatient. Residential provides a time out and an opportunity to "put tools in the toolbox" but outpatient is when the individual gets those tools out, and receives coaching in the moment. It's there when they use those skills and get help with what works and what doesn't. These two services should blend into each other with the knowledge that TOGETHER they provide the best opportunity for the individual to succeed in recovery. #GatewayFoundation #ExploreRecovery #RecoveryHappens
Outpatient treatment can be an effective and convenient form of treatment for many people. Outpatient programs offer treatment and services in the mornings, afternoon and evenings to help individuals access the treatment services they need while still allowing them to manage their personal and professional responsibilities. 7moI agree Andy, and 30 days is a great reset physically and mentally. A lot of people can’t take months out of their lives, but the progression of care can keep them engaged in recovery!
