Men in the construction industry are over 3.5 times more likely to die by suicide than the male national average. So, what is the industry doing to tackle this? Watch this candid discussion between Andy Stevens and Steve Kerslake who are taking a proactive approach to mental health in the industry 👇 https://lnkd.in/eKBgsfwh For far too long, the narrative around male mental health has been one of 'men don't talk'. What are the latest initiatives for mental health in the construction industry? 🧐 Business leaders seeking motivation to address the mental health crisis in construction should settle their ideas around two broad concepts. First, that poor mental health is incredibly costly. The annual bill for the nation as a whole is between £74bn and £99bn. Mental health conditions account for 12.4% of all sick days. And second, there is a legal obligation for construction companies to address the issue > https://ow.ly/BCME50RzvQK #Sheffield #SouthYorkshire #ConstructionIndustry #ConstructionWorkers #ConstructionRecruitment #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek

The Mental Health Crisis in Construction: It’s Time for a Change 🚨 The construction industry is the backbone of our society, but behind the steel beams and concrete walls, there’s an unseen crisis that’s claiming too many lives: mental health struggles. Every day, thousands of workers in our industry face intense pressures—tight deadlines, physically demanding work, and often, long periods of isolation. These challenges have led to a tragic rise in suicides across the construction sector, with men in construction being nearly three times more likely to take their own lives than the national average. This has to change. At The Build Network UK, we’re taking action with a new campaign aimed at shining a light on the mental health crisis in construction. This isn't just about raising awareness - it’s about creating real, lasting impact. But we can’t do this alone. We need everyone—employers, colleagues, friends—to be part of this movement. You DON'T want to miss this - it's coming very soon. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e6mwD39i #MentalHealthMatters #ConstructionSafety #TheBuildNetworkUK #SuicidePrevention #EndTheStigma #WellbeingInConstruction #BuildABetterFuture

This World Mental Health Day, we want to highlight some hard-hitting realities in the UK construction industry: - Construction workers are three times more likely to die by suicide than the national average for men, with the rate sitting at around 34 per 100,000. - 59% of construction workers have reported struggling with mental health, yet many feel unable to open up about their issues. - Substance abuse, often used as a coping mechanism for stress, is prevalent, further contributing to the suicide rates. - Men aged 45-54 are the most vulnerable, aligning with a broader trend of mid-life mental health challenges, often worsened by job instability and financial pressure. - Mental health issues are responsible for an estimated 400,000 lost working days each year in UK construction alone. While initiatives like Mates in Mind, The Lighthouse Club, and Andy's Man Club are making strides, there’s still much more to be done! Let’s continue to raise awareness, support our mates and colleagues, and break the stigma surrounding mental health in construction - not just today, but every day. If you or someone you know is struggling, please . You're not alone 💙 #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthInConstruction #SupportYourMates #BreakTheStigma #ConstructionWellbeing #MatesInMind #LighthouseClub #MentalHealthMatters #MentalWellnessInConstruction

🌍 Building Strong Foundations: Mental Health in Construction 🛠️ As we marvel at the structures that shape our world, we must also acknowledge the silent struggles faced by the individuals who bring these creations to life—our construction workers. In an industry often characterized by toughness and resilience, mental health challenges are frequently overlooked, leading to a crisis that deserves our immediate attention. It's time to open up conversations about mental health and foster a culture of support and understanding. Many workers may be bottling up their feelings, yearning for help and connection. Let’s create an environment where reaching out for support is seen as a sign of strength, not weakness. We can make a difference through awareness, education, and community initiatives. Conducting seminars and workshops can equip our workforce with the tools they need to cope and thrive. We must ensure that help is accessible and that no one feels alone in their struggles. Together, let’s work towards eliminating the stigma around mental illness in our industry. By dipping our toes into empathy and compassion, we can become the best version of ourselves for those in need. Let’s stand together, support each other, and build a future where mental health is prioritized as much as safety and productivity. 💪❤️ #MentalHealthAwareness #ConstructionIndustry #SupportEachOther #EndTheStigma #EmpathyInAction
