I wrote a UX design skills roadmap focused on beginners. Why? I've taught at a few boot camps and spoken to enough students there to conclude that they aren't working. There is a lot of emphasis on tools. Which is not the problem on its own. The problem is not enough, if at all, focus on the design mindset. It's so bad that I'd say to anyone thinking about learning UX design to learn by yourself. All the knowledge is freely available on the internet. Use this roadmap to guide your study, or use gen AI to make a curriculum for yourself. Having said that, if developing a design mindset sounds like something you'd be interested in, DM me. I am growing in the field of user experience design, but there have been hurdles along the way. Today, I’d like to share the challenges I faced early on and how it shaped me into the product designer I am today. 📅 Flashback to 2020 and 2021 In 2020, during the COVID-19 period, I was trying to get into medical school, and that’s when my interest in the tech space started growing. I began learning Python, but it didn’t resonate with me, and I eventually lost interest. Then, I stumbled upon the field of UI/UX design (now commonly referred to as product design). I started learning through the Google UX Design course and got immersed in the endless possibilities that UX design had to offer. After getting into school, I found myself stretched thin, balancing the demanding schedules of school while trying to break into the world of UX design. Imposter syndrome hit hard, and I often questioned whether I could manage both worlds. 😓 ✨ How I Overcame It 1️⃣ Prioritizing Time Management: I learned to manage my time more effectively, blocking out specific hours for design practice without compromising my studies. I used time management apps to stay organized and boost productivity. 2️⃣ Continuous Learning: Instead of getting overwhelmed by the gap in my design skills, I focused on making incremental progress—taking online courses, reading UX blogs, and practicing daily. 3️⃣ Building a Support Network: I connected with mentors like Aliena and joined communities of like-minded designers who encouraged and guided me along the way. 📅 Where I Am Now Fast forward to 2024, I’m not only growing as a product designer but also as a medical student. I’ve built a strong portfolio, taught product design to students, and gained the confidence to tackle new challenges head-on. 💪 To anyone feeling stuck or overwhelmed—keep going! Progress doesn’t happen overnight, but with persistence and the right mindset, you can overcome even the toughest challenges. 👉 What challenges are you currently facing? Just wrapped up an incredible 8-week 💻 UX Design📱 course with BrainStation! Another top-tier learning experience from a world-class organization that understands how to teach modern skills in a highly applicable manner. A big shout out to Jimmie Solomon and Joseph Bryan for packing so much great content into such a limited amount of time! For those of you scoring at home, no, I’m not pivoting on my career pivot… I just figured I should level up my UX/UI game as I find myself working mostly on frontend software development projects (for now)... From mathlete Mom to UX Researcher: my passion project (and how it's supercharging my PMM skills) Hello, UX research for a math-focused web app aimed at neurodivergent kiddos (and maybe secretly EVERYONE between 7-11 who has ever cried over fractions) 👋 Here's the thing: -> I'm a computer engineer by education. Math is my happy place. Always has been -> I'm also a soon-to-be school mom facing the potential future of math meltdowns with my own little one (shudders at memories of memorizing times tables) -> Product marketing is my usual battlefield, but lately, I've been feeling the itch to learn new tricks That's where Tech Fleet and this passion project come in - I'm joining a dream team to craft a killer UX research plan for this app. We're talking sprint planning sessions, expanding our participant pool, and basically decoding the secrets of making math learning NOT feel like torture. A student dashboard is a digital interface designed to provide students with a centralized hub for accessing various educational resources and managing their academic journey. It typically includes features as personal information, grade and progress tracking, financial information, course progress and Management, Academic Calendar . Overall, a student dashboard aims to streamline the educational experience by providing easy access to essential information and resources, fostering communication and collaboration, and helping students stay organized and on track towards their academic goals.
