🤖 This is #AI #Fake or #Real awareness series posting #8. The previous ones can be seen here - https://lnkd.in/eMtfsiWh ✅ Follow me for the latest AI-related news and analysis. https://lnkd.in/eESnAbFm 📢 This time there is no fake or real test. They are all fakes weaponized in a real political situation. Showcasing the doomsday already started! A lot of you are of still the opinion that deepfakes can't be weaponized for political purposes. Here are real-life examples, you be the judge. 🏛️ With the election cycle coming up, a lot of fake news and content is starting to come out already that might have a real impact on electing the true leaders! 💯 Seek the truth!!! Get to the source. Find the provenance, and question the authenticity. *DON'T JUST BLINDLY BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU SEE ON THE INTERNET!!!* 💥 Case 1: Deepfake ads against Paul Vallas. In the Chicago mayor race, the lost candidate, Paul Vallas, claimed that his opponent, who was also a Democrat, used deepfakes to attack days before the election causing him to lose the election. In the runoff, after leading the race for many months by double digits, Vallas lost the race by 4 points. He blames the AI-created deepfake ads run by his opponent as the cause. He claimed, "In some countries, they do political assassination, here (in the USA) we do character assassination." This was by a Democrat who claimed his opponent was too far right, and conservative, claiming "Chicago cannot afford Republicans like Paul Vallas." 💥 Case 2: Biden fake calling democrats Per #NewHampshire Attorney General, an Arlington, Texas-based company, Life Corporation, called 20,000 NH voters urging Democrats not to vote in the state's primary in Biden's voice. They used a fake audio creation AI tool to create this realistic Biden speech, and the company that created the tool (which I don't want to name here) distanced itself from this campaign and said they are “dedicated to preventing the misuse of audio AI tools” and that it takes appropriate action in response to reports by authorities. The calls were made ahead of New Hampshire’s presidential primary in January, urging New Hampshire voters not to vote in the contest and instead “save” their vote for the November election. The audio can be seen on the second link below. It does sound so real. While this campaign may not have any direct impact on the NH primaries, it is just an indication of what is to come in the general elections. The worst part, all of these can be created in a matter of minutes using AI tools! 🔗 Link to the sources below. ***I welcome a healthy debate on this topic of deepfakes in political scenarios and how we can mitigate this as a society. Please DON'T make this political and/or leave nasty comments. I will delete the comment and BLOCK you. Be civil. *** 📸 Image credit: All original images to owners. These "arguements" are unnecessary. Simple solution is to legislate that software companies have to mandatorily apply a digital signature or watermark to any output. There is no freedom of speech issue in doing this, quite the contrary. What's more interesting is that these laws are not in place already....who is wondering what they might gain???
People will say politics has gotten worse over time. If you look at the campaigns of the first few US presidential elections you'll see this is untrue. The false accusations were scandalous beyond measure. What has changed is the technology. The key to this (as you say Andy ThurAI) will be "go to the source", but we're going to need advanced technology to continue to make that possible.
Critical thinking and critical analysis are skills that we will all need to take to a next level (almost to the level of expertise of a digital forensic expert today) in a world where it’s going to be incredibly hard to tell the difference between “real reality” vs manipulated / engineered / fake situations.
It should be illegal to create deep fakes, the same as it's illegal to forge someone's signature.
SO important. Thanks for sharing!
Interesting....
