Well done to the Loddon Mallee Public Health Unit (Bendigo Health) for the 2023 launch of a valuable CLIMATE CHANGE AND HEALTH FRAMEWORK, demonstrating its commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of their community, while contributing to a sustainable future. If public health and climate change adaptation and mitigation are your passion, then you might enjoy exploring their approach. The guide: 1. demonstrates how climate change impacts people’s health and wellbeing 2. demonstrates the co-benefits of climate change action and health outcomes 3. identifies opportunities for organisations to work in the climate change adaptation 4. provides a framework for organisations to implement climate change adaptation and mitigation action 5. supports evaluation of effort with the inclusion of suggested indicators and associated data sources 6. provides recommendations for the implementation of the framework. #publichealth #climatechange #liveability Loddon Mallee Climate Change and Health Framework BH (bendigohealth.org.au)

#ClimateHealthSolutions 📢 Climate Change & Health Initiative: Interviews with Case Study Authors 📢 In our new series of video interviews, authors present their case studies from the recently published 'Climate Change and Health: Science-based Policy Solutions', a collaboration between IAP and Save the Children International. South Africa is confronting growing challenges due to extreme heat, significantly impacting public health. Dr. Caradee Wright, a lead researcher at the South African Medical Research Council, has spearheaded a study on this critical issue. Her research focuses on the severe effects of extreme heat on public health, particularly among vulnerable populations like women and children in primary healthcare settings. The findings stress the urgent need for targeted interventions and resilience strategies to mitigate heat-related health risks effectively. 🌡️👩⚕️ Watch the full interview with Dr. Wright to learn more about her impactful work: https://lnkd.in/d2N_pSju Follow us with the hashtag #ClimateHealthSolutions to stay updated on the latest insights and developments

NDCs: A Path to Stronger, Climate-Resilient Health Systems Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) present a vital opportunity for increased ambition in public health. By integrating health into climate action, NDCs can pave the way for the creation of climate-resilient health systems that are better prepared to withstand the impacts of climate change. Prioritizing health adaptation programs ensures that vulnerable populations are protected from climate-related health risks like heatwaves, disease outbreaks, and extreme weather events. Strengthening health infrastructure and services in the face of climate challenges will not only save lives but also build healthier, more sustainable communities. Investing in climate resilience is investing in the future of public health. #climatejustice

Fantastic news - the World Health Organization's 2025-2028 General Program has been approved, this includes prioritizing climate change and health - https://lnkd.in/erHRgdms ➡️ We endorse the WHO’s aim to draw on the growing wealth of evidence to build climate-resilient health systems and ensure a multi-sectoral response to protect our health and wellbeing. ➡️ On the prioritization of bolstering climate-resilient health systems to ensure that people around the world are protected from the escalating health risks of climate change we applaud this approach and will work in full solidarity. Seed Global Health has been focused on strong resilient health systems led by a strong protected workforce for an over a decade and seen first hand the responsiveness and ability to meet the myriad challenges.

Excited to share insights from our recent paper, "Health Systems Response to Climate Change Adaptation: A Scoping Review of Global Evidence," which reviewed data from 85 countries. The findings highlight that while strides are being made towards resilient health systems, significant barriers like poor policy implementation, financial constraints, and inadequate data persist. It is imperative for health systems worldwide to integrate climate considerations into their policies and actions to safeguard public health against the escalating risks of climate change. We have proposed a new model that extends the WHO’s health system resilient framework. Let's push for stronger, climate-resilient health systems! World Health Organization may be interested in this evidence. #ClimateChange #PublicHealth #HealthSystems #Resilience #GlobalHealth

Our webinar, "Climate Change, Migration, and Public Health: A One Health Approach to Building Resilience in the Eastern Mediterranean Region," took place today. Being held in December, it coincids with the International Day of Epidemic Preparedness, highlighting the urgent need to address public health emergencies further exacerbated by climate change. From rising temperatures to water scarcity and extreme weather events, climate change not only drives migration but also intensifies health risks, disproportionately impacting the most vulnerable populations. It was a pleasure to coordinate this event alongside Dr Sayed Himatt and Gabrielle Corrigan, MPH from our partner, RTI International. A heartfelt thank you to our esteemed panelists Dr Lucy Hovil, Dr Hannah Marcus and Ms Reem Halaseh and the distinguished moderator Mr Mohammad Asfour for sharing their insights and paving the way for resilient, evidence-based strategies to protect communities and safeguard public health. This webinar and the interactive discussion, highlighted critical research gaps in the region, opened the discussion on the intersection of migration and climate-driven health challenges, and emphasized the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration through the One Health approach. #ClimateChange #PublicHealth #OneHealth #EmergencyPreparedness #EMR
