You really need to check out Barry O'Reilly's residuality theory, that helps you design more resilient software architecture. To do so he starts from the insight that the ways software systems fail are attractor states for those systems 🤯. Practically that means you can make up completely bonkers failure scenarios (like giant fire breathing lizards start eating your local nuclear powerplant) and see what parts of your software system would remain after the catastrophe, and use that to design systems that have better residuals in any hypothetical failure scenarios. A little while ago I had Barry on for an API Resilience Podcast. If you spend any time designing socio-technical systems you should definitely have a listen.
