Product & UX @ Userfit

In my field of work there the main topic is user experience. But in order for products and services to work and perform well I think what comes first is team member experience. These are the main fundamentals of every business that wants their team members to feel empowered, safe and proactive: 1️⃣ CLARITY AROUND CORE BUSINESS STUFF - every team member has to understand company & product vision, mission, strategy, goals, objectives, KPIs, product/service benefits etc. They can not and will not buy in to whatever you're selling if these things are not clear. They will be confused, distressed, overwhelmed. No bueno. 2️⃣ ACCOUNTABILITY - focus on outcomes (what is getting done) and not on busy work (hours spent). Focusing on quality and impact of the work will make it easier to gauge how people perform. Then you can have a real talk how to get better and not overwhelm people with daunting processes, requiring them to work from office etc. in order to coerce them into squeezing single every drop of effort in the 8 hours they spend in the office. 3️⃣ HIRE WELL AND AVOID MICROMANAGEMENT - make sure you don't hire assholes with weird agendas and incompetent people. If you ever feel you need to micro manage people you either failed at hiring or you haven't provided enough clarity. 4️⃣ MEASURE OF SUCCESS - set up clear expectations from people on what, when and how things should be done. Make sure they understand what success means for their position. Tie incentives to outcomes that team member has a direct control over it. Don't move goalposts to save a couple of bucks in incentives. 5️⃣ PAY PROPERLY - if you want people to think and work towards improving your business, just pay them properly. They *can not* and *will not* do that if they are facing existential dread over how they gonna make ends meet. 6️⃣ QUALITY TOOLS - I cannot overstate how infinitely dumb it is to save a couple hundred bucks on a laptop with insufficient performance / specs for people to do their tasks optimally. Get people tools with double or more the performance over what they actually need to do their job. Having quality tools also makes people feel better. 7️⃣ REMOVE ASSHOLES - if you make a mistake and hire an asshole, don't wait too long for them to poison the well. Also, make sure you as a business owner are not an asshole. Treat people with respect, dignity and transparency.

I'll do an internal review of these fundamentals. I have a feeling we may have opportunities to improve in one of these areas. As a team of engineers, we find that some of these areas can be especially challenging.
