SES2+ provisional agreement disappointing; a missed opportunity for European regional airlines The provisional agreement reached in the early hours of the morning at the EU trilogue on the Single European Sky (SES) reform aims to improve the performance, organisation and management of European airspace. Based on ERA’s initial assessment, and subject to a detailed and thorough review, it is understood that this agreement does not go far enough to address the needs of Europe’s regional airlines, the needs that ERA has consistently advocated for since the European Commission published the recast proposal in September 2020.  Montserrat Barriga, ERA’s Director General commented; “ERA has continuously recognised the need for an ambitious and seamless Single European Sky, one that delivers for our airlines, our passengers and the environment. We are therefore disappointed that the final agreement appears to fall short of meeting these requirements. At first glance, several concessions appear to have been made which unfortunately reduces the likelihood of the substantial improvements that we have pushed for in terms of airspace capacity, operational efficiency and sustainability. It’s clear that further efforts will be required to address today’s aviation challenges effectively”. #eraa #SingleEuropeanSky

This mission advances our broader partnership with the American ecosystem. Avinor and the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority have  entered into a cooperation agreement on the establishment of Norway as an international test arena for zero- and low-emission aircraft. The establishment will be a key measure for achieving the goal of fossil-free Norwegian aviation in 2050. We have a chance to give feedback on the EU non-CO2 MRV. This will be crucial in determining which flights will be selected for monitoring of their non-CO2 emissions in the coming year. If we want to ensure a greener future and a better understanding of aviation emissions in the near future, we must monitor ALL flights.

🚀 Pioneering European Airspace Integration: Austro Control an our Partners lead the Way! 🌍✈️ The recent merger of our Free Route Airspaces in Europe is another team effort and a major step towards a more efficient air travel in Europe. At a joint event in Vienna we could proudly anounce the milestone with ENAV, Croatia Control, Slovenia Control BHANSA. Austro Control is proud to be a trailblazer in Europe for implementing Free Route Airspaces (FRA). Since 2019, SECSI FRA has connected the airspaces of Austria, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Slovenia. On March 21, 2024, SECSI FRA will merge with FRAIT (Italy), creating one of Europe's largest cross-border Free Route Airspaces. The Benefits of Free Route: ✈️Direct Flights: Aircraft can travel the shortest and most optimal routes. ⛽️Fuel Efficiency: Airlines save on fuel costs. 🌱Reduced Emissions: Significant decrease in environmental impact. This expansion is expected to cut CO2 emissions by approximately 30,000 tons annually! 🌱🌍 Thank you to our partner ANSPs and all the experts for the excellent teamwork. UKCAA to shape hydrogen-powered aviation’s regulatory path with key players. By Charlie Currie The UK Civil Aviation Authority (UKCAA) has selected three hydrogen aviation players to increase industry and regulatory readiness for the introduction of the energy carrier. Cranfield Aerospace Solutions (CAeS), Exeter Airport Consortium and ZeroAvia have been selected as part of the Hydrogen Challenge Sandbox which aims to ensure regulation is fit for purpose and to reduce challenges association with the introduction of hydrogen. Expected to run until the end of February 2025, the UKCAA will work with the organisations to explore the hazards, risks and safety challenges within individual projects. https://lnkd.in/d65n-mNR
