It’s summertime, and the livin’ is not always easy. As transitioning from school to summer provides new opportunities, it can be difficult to cope with the change. The season also offers more idle time and social opportunities - like outdoor parties and festivals. Here are some pointers for staying safe this summer: 1. Create strategies with your parents to handle peer pressure. 2. Hang out with friends who live drug-free. 3. We can't control the weather... TCKs in transition need to be prepared for it. Yesterday, over dinner, I was excited to ask my daughter about the new kid she had been paired up with in class. The response: "Mum, I like her during playtime, but in outdoor play she is annoying." I asked her why and she said, "Well, she just gets too hot and we have to let her rest. Its frustrating when we want to play a game." My TCK headlights switched on. I explained to her that the girl had come from a cold country. I told her that she might not know she has to drink a lot of water in the Philippines, that she might not know she can go to the library to cool down. It got me thinking... how can we adjust the sails for our children in this kind of situation? It isn't my first time to see children struggling with the heat. If their physiological needs aren't met how can we expect them to forge new friendships, learn, feel safe or start to belong? Perhaps admissions teams should be making parents aware that they need to give their children lots of opportunities to play outside and acclimatise before sending them to school in a new climate. #tck #globaleducation #internationaleducation #globalcitizenship #expatfamily

It's Take a Child Outside week! Time spent outdoors has benefits both outside and inside the classroom. We're talking a reduction in ADHD symptoms as well as in stress and anxiety, improved creativity and problem solving, improved social relationships, and improvements in regulation. Children are spending about 50% less time outdoors compared to 20 years ago, as explained by the National Wildlife Federation. All children deserve (and need!) to experience safe, open, green spaces. Last August, I began a journey to address a critical need: guiding parents through the challenges of raising middle school tweens in a rapidly changing world. Inspired by my daughters and fueled by my experience in education and coaching, I've crafted a vision that merges timeless values with modern parenting. As a former school administrator and educator, I've witnessed firsthand the struggles parents face in adapting to the evolving landscape of education and parenting. I've come to understand that true learning begins at home, where respect, responsibility, and accountability are cultivated. Through coaching sessions and workshops, I've worked closely with parents and tweens aged 9-14, developing a deep understanding of their needs and challenges. Recognizing the importance of implementation support, I've created a membership platform where moms and tween daughters can rewrite their stories, fostering understanding, possibility, and accountability. My offerings include: *Personalized 1:1 Coaching *"Ditch The Drama: From Chaos To Confidence In Middle School" Parent-Tween Course *Interactive Mom-Tween Daughter Workshops *Membership Program with group coaching sessions and valuable resources tailored to moms and tween girls. I'm in the final stages of a collaboration with teachers in the US and Canada to create modern, timeless values-based lessons for both public and private schools. These lessons focus on teaching students the "how" in addition to the "what” of emotional management, communication skills, and conflict resolution. Now, I'm returning to speaking and teaching, partnering with schools, groups, and organizations to foster healthy relationships that start at home and ripple outward.
