Universities are being urged to slash the equity stakes they take in software companies founded by their academics. Ten universities, including Imperial College London, University of Oxford, The University of Edinburgh, University of Cambridge and UCL, think the stake negotiated by university technology transfer offices in software spin-outs should be standardised at between 5% and 10%, significantly lower than deals done in the past. Innovative digital technology pioneers in North East England, UK-registered small and micro enterprises have the opportunity to vie for a portion of up to £1.5 million to enhance their innovative endeavors within the digital technology sphere in the region.
