I haven’t posted recently about my day job, so here’s an update!! Yesterday we officially opened the 3rd brick and mortar location! Crazy right? In ONE year we have opened three completely new stores starting from less than nothing to be fully built, stocked, merchandised, staffed, and operating. This experience has been somewhat of a challenge, yet in my opinion has also been a fairly easy achievement. And no, it hasn’t been easy in the sense that it’s easy work or a simple feat to undertake. You see, it’s all about how you approach things. If you approach things with the confidence that you can accomplish any task necessary, you and your staff will not only be more effective at doing so, but it will be more fulfilling as well.

Retail Rockstar Ready to Rise Above Challenges Being a retail assistant is all about building relationships, helping customers find what they need, and going the extra mile to create a positive shopping experience. But let's be honest, it's not always sunshine and rainbows. There can be some hurdles to overcome. Here are a few challenges retail assistants face, and how I'm prepared to tackle them: * Difficult Customers: Not every customer is a breeze to deal with. I'll stay calm, listen attentively, and diffuse any tense situations with professionalism and empathy. * Product Knowledge: Keeping up with inventory and new arrivals can be a challenge. I'm a fast learner and will actively seek out product knowledge to become a reliable source of information for customers. * Long Hours & Weekends: Retail schedules can be demanding. I'm a team player and understand the importance of flexibility to ensure smooth store operations. Beyond the Challenges: Despite these hurdles, there's so much to love about retail! I'm passionate about exceeding expectations and creating a positive environment for both customers and colleagues. Great opportunity in UAE

Awesome opportunity IF you have a Bachelor's degree. There are hundreds and possibly thousands of greatly qualified and motivated candidates out here in the wild that will shy away from applying due to not having one. The successful retail world is often owned and run by people who have built a portfolio of success with no education, just experience. The MoCo may overlook the requirement for a properly experienced candidate lacking a Bachelor's degree but I believe they are limiting their applicant pool by marketing that requirement so broadly. Sadly, there are many companies and fields all over the world doing the same. Likely with great intentions and purposes. It's just an outdated hiring point of view, IMO. My advice? If you've got the experience and the track record to show for it and you want a career like this...APPLY! You may get overlooked, you may get an opportunity that gets your foot in the door, or you may even score your dream job. You'll never get the win if you don't get yourself on the track. 🖤⚡️⚡️

Things I stopped buying since I left my full-time retail management job $$$ - Coffee at Starbucks ($5/cup * 5 days/week = $1,200/year)  - Spinach feta wrap or sandwich ($4 * 5 days/week = $960/year)  - Lunch at Panda Express or Tokyo Joe’s ($15 * 5 = $3,600/year)  - Cloths from new collections with employee discount ($200/month = $2,400/year) - New makeup at Sephora ($100/month = $1,200/year)  - Gas to get to work ($30/week = $1,440/year)  - Vehicle maintenance ($50/month = $600/year)  - Car insurance ($50/month = $600/year) Total: $12,000/year. Out of site, out of mind. Working from home decreases my desire to shop exponentially. Now, instead of eating out and shopping, I can max out my IRA. It’s also better for the environment. We need to rethink the validity of the WORK — CONSUME — WORK cycle. It doesn’t serve us as people and it doesn’t serve the planet at large. It only serves big corporations. P.S. Great company and opportunity

The job market in retail is interesting right now. Some observations from myself and my peers: - Specific experience is desired for category/product management roles. I.E I’m definitely viewed as a hard goods, “sports” buyer. - Senior category management roles (Above category management, below Merch dept. management) are few and far between. - Salaries are all over the show - Some companies simply want to fill roles and will pay the market minimum, some will pay for the “right” candidate. - Interview processes are dragged out and in some cases, roles axed as results are still poor. Anyway, here’s a picture of me in Marseille, France. Absolutely loving the fashion retail experience through Europe, particularly Barcelona and Milan.
