I have been looking at posts about design internships on #LinkedIn and there are a couple of things that surprised me or probably I don't know how to feel about it. Here's a list of some observations I made: 1. The internships that are unpaid and promise to give you a certificate/letter, ask payment towards the end of the enrollment process. 2. The internships that attract you stating that you will learn about design, actually have a list of expectations with regards to the 'design skills you must have'. 3. The internships that claim they are part-time and flexible, ultimately want you to be available full-time as per their convenience. I don't want to say if these things are right or wrong, as I am fairly new to this rather modern way of interning. But, I can say that back in the day, about 10 years ago, when I used to actively intern during my undergrad, I never came across such expectations. Internships were pretty simple and straightforward, you dedicate time and in return, learn a skill. A portfolio or resume was useful but never compulsory. All you needed was a heart full of interest, a body full of enthusiasm and a mind full of curiosity- the perfect internship recipe! #intern #internship #linkedinopportunities #uxdesign

DAY 8 OF 75 HARD CHALLENGE! 💪 Today, I wasn't able to do productive work like designing and reading blogs from other successful designers. However, I've started applying for internships and junior-level design roles because I believe that whatever I learn while studying is nothing compared to actual industry-level work and experience on real projects. 🌟 Although I am working on a few side projects, which I'll be sharing in my portfolio and case studies, it will take a lot of time to do all this. Let's see where I am heading. 🚀 Calling it a day. Unpaid design internships are a growing problem. It's sad to see junior designers taking these roles out of desperation. The job market is tough, but companies shouldn't take advantage of this. I've talked to many designers, and hearing about unpaid work always hurts. Job seekers are struggling. Why are companies hiring designers without paying them? If you use someone's work, you should pay them. It's that simple. Volunteering is different from unpaid internships. Don't try to call it volunteering when it's not. "From Uncertainty to Clarity: How My Internship Journey is Aligning with My Aspirations. My First task on HNG Internship is to create a visually appealing infographic showcasing my professional and personal objectives for the next 2 years. At first, I felt like a blank canvas - unsure of what to create, and doubtful of my abilities. Because I do not know what to create really and I do not know what the next 2 years holds for me . But as I sat down to design, something unexpected happened. Despite my fears and doubts, ideas began to flow, and my creativity took over. I realized that designing wasn't just about creating something visually appealing, but about embracing the unknown and trusting the process. That alone has helped me achieve one of my goals which includes the certainty of my aspirations for the next two years. My Aspirations for the next two years include; *Career Advancement* - Gaining industry experience and building a strong foundation for my future career - Developing skills in design and learning industry-standard tools - Creating a portfolio of my work that showcases my accomplishments *Networking* - Connecting with professionals in my field and building relationships that will benefit my future career - Learning from their experiences and gaining valuable insights into the industry - Expanding my network and making connections that will open doors to new opportunities *Personal Growth* - Developing a growth mindset and learning to embrace challenges - Improving my communication and teamwork skills - Building confidence in my abilities and developing a sense of self-belief. - ⁠*Personal Branding* - Establish a Professional Online Presence Creating a website, blog, or social media profiles that showcase my expertise, skills, and personality. (Which I’m currently developing). • Develop a Consistent Visual Identity • Create Valuable Content by producing high-quality content. As I navigate my internship at HNG I hope it bridges the connection between my internship journey and my aspirations by providing me the ideal opportunity to achieve my goal.
