While I admit to having no information for why these are closing, in-store clinics often face a daunting profitability challenge. Health care provider cost, session time, and traffic can mean always chasing a breakeven hurdle. Depending on local and state regulations, as these clinics approach their breakeven point they often have to add expensive health care workers. I believe that these clinics could be meaningful as patient drivers for hospitals and local primary care physicians (assuming there are any accepting new patients) ... neither of which necessarily benefit the retailer. However, they would have a much greater chance for success with a transformed retail layout focusing on "retail clarity" and a significantly reformatted pharmacy model. #Walgreens #cvs #riteaid #pharmacy #pharmacist https://lnkd.in/gibdfajg

For #PharmacistsMonth let’s not just appreciate but let’s celebrate. Pharmacists around the country are standing up and no longer being silent about the issues they, and in turn their patients, face daily. Medication will always be needed in our lifetime. Pharmacists not only have the knowledge about medications and dosing, but also have the ability to problem solve in complex cases. This knowledge cannot be expressed in many of the working environments we see around the country, which increases harm to the communities around. All pharmacists are clinically competent and bring so much more to the table than what most see at the local pharmacy. Without pharmacists, the system would not run. AI cannot replace the human element and more than ever we see that element shine through as the profession expands. Corporations have tried for years to squeeze the drop out of each professional and it’s sad. Kudos to all the pharmacists taking on the heavy lift and bringing your everything daily. Kudos for speaking up. Kudos for being at the table instead of throwing rocks at the window from the outside. I couldn't agree more! I'd like to add a reminder for everyone out there: take care of yourself. It's a simple concept, yet so often overlooked. How can we provide proper care to others if we're not promoting wellness within ourselves, and looking beyond the conventional to find innovative ways of enhancing our daily lives? Remember, life doesn't stop. People often ask why I strive to learn new skills outside of my "career", such as drawing, comics, manga, soccer, data science, programming, MMA, and so on. The aim is balance. "A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one." Initially intended as a compliment, this phrase suggests that a person, rather than being a specialist, is a generalist - versatile and adept at many things. The point is that the things we struggle with most might be our greatest opportunities for growth. Despite being dyslexic, color blind, and having EoE, by focusing more on myself and reducing needless consumption, I've found greater peace and improved health. We all have what it takes; we just need to start thinking about how to advance our professions beyond their current state. We are capable, adaptable, and determined. After experiencing my doctoral graduation ceremony online and then being thrown into a pandemic, dealing with vaccinations, testing, compounding, staffing, and managing, I feel like I've given enough. Now I need to step back and ask if this hard work is worth it. We need to be more efficient in our operations. The medical field can't afford to slow down, and we have a sufficient number of capable practitioners. However, our economy often can't afford to staff us accordingly. Like many, I'm frustrated, but I also see this as a time for growth and opportunity. I wasn't even sure I'd get into USF TCOP. I went off social media during pharmacy school, which gave me mental clarity. I have a few projects I'll be working on over the next 2-3 years, both personally and professionally. Instead of hyping them up, I'll just let you know that I'm ready to adapt. I will not stop being a pharmacist, and no major changes are planned for the near future. My employers have been understanding of my health issues. After nine concussions, I'm simply grateful to continue to grow and learn. Remember to appreciate what you have and pay it forward. Don't blame those who made mistakes before you. We are all human and should focus on common goals and small victories. Not every win will feel like the World Cup, but we can all strive to improve ourselves and the lives of those around us. I'm proud to be Dr. Somers, PharmD. However, please just call me Shawn or by my middle name, Don. As pharmacists, we can do a lot for the community and our interprofessional colleagues. Let's start thinking about what we CAN do, not what we HAVE done. Let's broaden our minds and focus on inner peace and understanding.

𝗢𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗕𝗠𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼 𝗳𝘂𝗻 🤩 ! - 𝗦𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲. I remember working in retail pharmacy, and my supervisor would notify us of an executive 👨💼 that was coming to town. We would all be running 🏃🏾♀️ around, cleaning, making sure the back room was in order, and so many other things that my supervisor wanted to make sure was in order. It was exhausting 😫 and our patient care was at risk of not receiving the attention they needed due to our focus on the visit. In specialty pharmacy, I’ve also experienced this with PBM onsite audits, boards of pharmacy visits, and accreditations. Onsite audits can be stressful for your team and affect daily operations and patient care. Running around the day of the audit, or the days leading to the audit or reaccreditation is not operational efficient. All of the following are potential damages from a recoupment from an audit. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀: 💰 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀👩⚖️ 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 So Yes!
