This is a great write-up on the most recent transfer and on the partnerships working to preserve these sought-after genetics and sacred relatives. There must be more testing of RB51 (brucellosis vaccine approved for cattle) on bison in general. There has been testing at the YNP facilities and it has been found to be efficacious in bison. However, the usage has been off-label for these purposes. The thought that must be considered is that elk pose more of a threat for spreading brucellosis to cattle because the elk are not contained and roam freely in and out of cattle herds, feeding areas, and across state lines.
