Stop asking people to DM you if you can offer genuine help publicly 🤝 Yesterday, I searched for professional groups on Facebook with the genuine intention of connecting with a community where people help each other out. Sadly, most of the groups I’ve found or even joined, I don’t feel the sense of community at all because there is too much of unwanted solicitation for work. I learned to cherish the network on LinkedIn even more, though scams can be everywhere, and no platform is perfect. When I post a question in a Facebook group, people start to send me friend requests and ask me to DM them, in the comment section, while my question can be answered publicly and it is not something that needs a paid service. I was surprised at first: “Why would I need to DM you? Can’t you give me an answer that other people can see as well?” DMs may not be the worst part. They even asked me to give them access to my account and other personal information. However, I was cautious enough to say no to that request, though I really wanted my problem to be solved. It is a red flag for untrustworthiness. A trustworthy person/expert is the one that has exclusive content/services while offering free information to the public. If they ask you to DM them for every single question, they appear to be untrustworthy, and even worse, they are a bit too hungry for customers and money. All the experts I know who are active on social media, they offer free information to the public, though they may have a paid service for income. If you can offer free help publicly, just do it. Create a community, help each other out, and build an environment where everyone feels safe. #scamawareness #community #communitybuilding #scammeralert #helpingothers

I’ve come to the conclusion that these platforms are more focused on collecting behavioral data to sell ads than on fostering genuine connections. It’s like building on rented land…you’re pouring time and resources into something you can’t fully control. Whether it’s the lack of moderation tools, limited access to data, or the unpredictability of algorithms, there’s no guarantee your community’s content will even reach its members. That’s why I’m so passionate about platforms like Networked. More and more people are making the switch because they value better experiences, greater visibility, and control over their data. Today, we’ve grown to a family of 3,000+ communities, and we’re just getting started. We’re on a mission to revolutionize how communities are built and managed. Don’t get left behind.
