Organ Donation Week: A Gift like no other Nine years ago, I received the most incredible gift, a kidney that saved my life. It’s hard to describe the gratitude I feel for my donor and their family, but the impact of organ donation extends far beyond just my physical health. Receiving a transplant wasn’t just about surviving; it was about truly living again. The relief that comes with knowing your body is no longer fighting against itself lifts a weight from your mind as well. For me, it allowed me to truly understand myself and caused a profound change in my whole belief system and life. It has also allowed me to raise my daughter. Attend her school events, travel with her, visit my elderly mother in Portugal etc. Before the transplant, every day was a struggle, I had dialysis 4x a week, life was filled with uncertainty, fear, and the constant fatigue of illness. Afterward, I regained not only my strength but my sense of self, hope, and a future. Organ donation doesn’t just save lives it restores the mind and spirit. It gives recipients the ability to dream again, to connect more deeply with loved ones, and to live fully. That’s why I advocate for organ donation, so others can experience the profound transformation that I have being able to live life, travel and have the energy needed for their families. During Organ Donation Week, I ask you to consider registering as a donor. Your choice could be the lifeline someone is waiting for the gift that saves their body and renews their soul. You can change a life and make a real difference to someone else. Do you know one person can save up to 7-8 people through organ donation. It only takes takes a few minutes. Please register for organ donation here: https://lnkd.in/eTkRv7Pv #OrganDonationWeek #DonateLife #TransplantAdvocate #MentalHealthAndTransplants ———————————- Hi I’m Elizabeth a #livedexperience #disabled activist. April is #NationalDonateLifeMonth! 🌟 Did you know April is National Donate Life Month? It's a special time to shine a light on the life-changing impact of organ, eye, and tissue donation and to honor the heroes who've given this extraordinary gift. 🌟💙💚 The call for diverse donors is more urgent than ever. A fact from the Mayo Clinic Minute really hits home: "Why diverse organ donors are needed," by Alex Osiadacz (August 15, 2023), tells us that tragically, 17 people die daily waiting for transplants in the U.S. The stats are even more concerning for minority communities - 60% of those waiting are minorities, but they make up just 30% of donors. Working with Gift of Life Michigan, I've seen firsthand the need for donors, especially in the African American community where the need for kidney transplants is great. That's why I'm on a mission to boost awareness and spread the word in the African American community about the power of donation. It's so important for us, especially in the brown and black communities, to step up. Becoming a donor and having those heartfelt chats about life's toughest topics can save lives - maybe even someone you know.🙏 So, let's come together this month and truly make an impact. If you've ever thought about organ donation, talk to your loved ones and consider registering. Your decision could be the miracle someone is praying for. 💖🙏 #DonateLifeMonth #GiftOfLife #OrganDonationAwareness #April #OrganDonation #BeTheChange

Organ donation is one of the most selfless, life-saving choices we can make, yet it stirs so many emotions—fear, uncertainty, and grief. Often, we only face it when we’re losing someone we love. My wishes are on my driving license because, like grief, it’s something we avoid talking about. But what if we had that conversation? What if we asked our families about their wishes, rather than leaving the decision to the people left behind to make a choice for you, a choice that’s truly yours to make! These decisions shouldn’t be made in a moment of crisis—they should be open conversations. Don’t you think? Take a read of our weekly blog for more on this important topic.

"Every day, thousands of people depend on the kindness and generosity of blood donors to survive. For many, a simple blood donation can mean the difference between life and death. Today, on World Blood Donor Day, I want to share a remarkable story that illustrates the power of blood donation to create miracles, and to inspire each of you to consider giving the gift of life through donation." "The Miracle of Donation": A mother named Maya gave birth to her baby prematurely. The baby was born with a rare blood disorder and needed regular blood transfusions to survive. But due to the baby's rare blood type, finding compatible blood was a challenge. That's when Maya's husband, a first-time blood donor, was found to be a perfect match, and he donated his blood to save their child. Their story illustrates the power of blood donation to create miracles. So when you donate blood, you're not just saving a life, you're also saving a family, a community, a future. The power of your donation ripples out into the world, creating a wave of hope and healing. Today, let's ride that wave together. Let's honor those who have donated blood in the past, and let's commit to giving blood ourselves to ensure that there will always be enough blood for those who need it. 🥳Happy World Blood Donor Day🩸🥳 #GiveBloodSaveLives #WorldBloodDonorDay #Maternalandchildhealthadvocate #FOMABFoundation

🧡 Saffron Day – A conversation that can save lives. We spoke with Dr Sean, Medical Donation Specialist and the State Medical Director for DonateLife ACT, about the importance of organ and tissue donation. Here's what he had to share: 🩺 Why did you get involved with DonateLife? ‘Since becoming a Medical Donation Specialist and later the State Medical Director, I've felt privileged to contribute to a service that saves and transforms lives.’ 💫 What does organ donation mean to you? ‘It's one of the greatest acts of generosity. It’s a gift that can give someone their only chance at life.’ 👩⚕️ Any memorable stories? ‘I’ve seen so many lives changed—my own cousin received a kidney from her mother. Even my wife had her knee reconstructed with a donated tendon. These life-changing stories are everywhere, often hidden beneath a discreet scar.’ 🧠 Misconceptions and the need for conversation ‘People often think it won’t apply to them. Death is inevitable, and planning for it rationally can help save up to seven lives. It starts with saying, 'I want to be a donor.’ 💬 Why talk to your family? ‘Your family is your voice when you can't speak for yourself. Knowing your wishes gives them some certainty and control during a difficult time. A simple 'I’ve registered as an organ donor' can make all the difference.’ 💡 Not sure about registering? Check out the DonateLife website and speak with your local agency. 🌟 Start the conversation today. Register your wishes and make a difference: https://lnkd.in/emYr37z9

Match made: we found the kidney donor :) These words, while seemingly simple, carry a load of emotions, struggles, and victories behind them. They mark the end of a wild ride - one filled with reaching out to the whole community, leveraging the power of social media, and navigating through a maze of obstacles in search of a life-saving match. And guess what? My husband has finally found his kidney match! 😊 Expanding the hunt for this kidney donor meant reaching out far and wide. During that phase, we felt a tidal wave of support from friends, acquaintances, and even strangers as they stood with us, spreading the word near and far in the hope of finding a match. Thank you so very much for all your prayers and good wishes, to everyone who reposted our plea and everyone who came forward to offer their organs even if we had to turn people down due to various reasons. For privacy reasons, I won't go into specifics about our donor, but I wanted to share this happy news with you as you all stood by us during our search. I must say, this journey has been one heck of a ride. When I started this campaign last year, I don't think I fully understood how intense it would be. In the realm of medical challenges, few things are as emotionally draining and time-consuming as finding a kidney donor. It's been a rollercoaster of hope, heartache, and determination. Despite the challenges and setbacks though, we reached a turning point - the lifesaving match. It's a moment brimming with gratitude and relief as the search for Sthe's kidney donor ends in a match made in heaven. 😊 💚 This is a happy picture of my hubby and my 19-year old son, Ozzi. Today, we're celebrating because we found someone to give Sthe a kidney. But this journey means more than just that. It's about holding onto hope when things seem bleak, staying strong in the face of challenges, and seeing what's possible when people come together. It shows how important it is to donate organs. Let's keep spreading the word and encouraging others to do the same. Together, we can give more people the chance for a new beginning. #organdonation #kidneydonation #kidneytransplant #labouroflove #altruism #gratitude

Director of Business Development - Tips for work and life: Show up early. Work hard. Stay humble. Be positive. Be a team player. Never let a task be too little, but have faith, knowing no task is ever too big either.
Incredible surprise performance of the song For Good from the musical Wicked from a donor mother and a recipient mother who had unknowingly both sang that song both as a last song to one son who went to sleep in the Lord and as a first song to another son waking up to a new life after a heart transplant. Unbelievably orchestrated (they showed the clip from America’s Got Talent introduction to serve as an introduction of them actually coming on stage to sing in person). I sometimes say this, but mostly keep it to myself as I think most people do in the organ donation and transplant industry; the pain of seeing the grief from loss of another person is visceral; it pierces the soul. It is a constant reminder of the sorrow of death and the hurt that surrounds the loss of a loved one. Yet, in the most unique way, it is from that sorrow that faith, hope, and love come in the selfless act of organ donation. It is the pure joy, gratitude, and love that comes from the transplant event, and the precious gift of a new day, every day for a recipient that balances the pain. The consolation for donor families knowing their loved one saved another life and the thankfulness of having one’s life saved is palpable. It is tangible. It is real and its value is indescribable. It is seeing this that reminds me that being an enabling part at least in some small way, day in and day out, sometimes joyous, sometimes sorrowful is a noble endeavor. I truly know that the privilege of having the opportunity to help donor families find strength, hope, meaning, and love from loss and for recipients to have a brand new chance at life is contributing to my life being a life well-lived. The two ladies today reaffirmed that for me in a deep and meaningful way that they will never know, but is much appreciated. #TheAlliance #Alliance #NCIF #AmericasGotTalent #ForGood #Organ #Donation #Procurement #Transplant #OrganDonation #OrganProcurement #OrganTransplant #Faith #Hope #Love #DonateLife #SaveLives #OPTN #BuckeyeTransplantServices #BuckeyeTransplant #Buckeye #BTS

Today is National Living Donor Day where we celebrate and honor the brave people who step up and save lives by donating their living organs and tissue to heal those in need. AS A TWO-TIME KIDNEY TRANSPLANT RECIPIENT VIA DECEASED DONORS, I TRULY ADMIRE THOSE WHO LITERALLY GIVE OF THEMSELVES TO HELP ANOTHER PERSON TO SUSTAIN LIFE. Anyone can sign up to be a donor. Medical tests can help determine which recipient would benefit from your donation. Oftentimes, people misunderstand who qualifies to become an organ donor. An organ donor can be: Anyone between the ages of 18 - 60 years of age at most transplant centers. A parent, sibling or adult child. Other relatives, such as an uncle, aunt, or cousin. A biologically unrelated person who knows the recipient, such as a friend, co-worker, significant other, or spouse of a friend. Anyone who knows the recipient's need for the organ. A good Samaritan living donor simply decides to donate because they are a match to a stranger who is in need of an organ. #thursdaythoughts #winstonwisdom #learnmorein2024 #grateful #thankful #nationallivingdonorday
