Last week we've celebrated Marijke Wiersma's new role as Managing Director. She has done an amazing job as Managing Partner next to Anton Kanis the last couple of months and proven herself to be ready for the next phase as MD. Please join us in congratulating her 🎉

For Women’s History Month, we’re recognizing the successes and achievements of BARDA employees. Meet Connie Song, Lead Contract Specialist, Division of Contract Management and Acquisitions.
One of Connie’s greatest career achievements to date is having the opportunity to support the BARDA mission and working with such a talented and dedicated group. She added, “specifically providing contracting support to the Division of Research, Innovation and Ventures (DRIVe) in launching new and novel program initiatives.”
Connie’s advice to young women who are just starting their professional careers is: “stay true to yourself and pursue your passions. Those incremental steps (some of which will feel like steps backwards) toward achieving every goal you set out to tackle is part of the experience that makes those more challenging moments worthwhile — there’s no failure in learning.”

"Excited to share insights from my recent presentation at the HBA Ambassador cohort Short Talk, where I explored 'The Art of Magical Thinking' through the lens of 'The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People' by Stephen Covey. 🌟
🚀 Here's a glimpse into the leadership principles discussed:
Proactive Mindset: Leaders, let's take the reins! A proactive approach involves seizing opportunities and anticipating challenges before they arise. It's about leading with initiative and foresight.
Time Management Matrix: Effective leadership is not just about being busy; it's about focusing on what truly matters. Prioritizing tasks based on importance rather than urgency ensures our efforts align with strategic goals.
Synergize for Win-Win: Collaboration is the heartbeat of success. As leaders, recognizing the value of collaboration and seeking mutually beneficial outcomes is key to fostering a culture of synergy and collective achievement.
Grateful for the opportunity to share and learn from the incredible HBA community.
Thank you, LeAnna J. Carey for the chance to contribute to the conversation! 🙌 #Leadership#EffectiveLeadership#ProfessionalDevelopment#HBA#SevenHabits"
I always enjoy Adam J. Epstein's posts and newsletters.
This example was not just an inspired chair; it was also a courageous one.
Too many boards don't pause enough during their meeting and miss the opportunity for deep reflection. This is no substitute for the deep reflection we have upon reading our papers, it is additional and allows us to reflect on the valuable contributions of our board colleagues. Only then are we prepared to make decisions based on our collective and individual thinking.
So, I'm curious - what have you seen chairs do that helped your boards to think better and deeper before making decisions?
#boards#directors#chair
I regularly receive requests for examples of great board chairs in action. I included this example in a recent missive to my firm's global community of executives. Being chair of a public company isn't a ceremonial accolade; it's a *crucial* role. https://lnkd.in/g5PZNjwk

Building & strategizing together as BIPOC's in leadership.
For a long time we as BIPOC's didn't understand the power of collective strategizing, moving as ONE Force.
We are UN-stoppable when we recognize there's strength in numbers..... & COLLABORATE as a COLLECTIVE FORCE to elevate our systemically disenfranchised communities, entrepreneurs by harnessing our voices in harmony at tables & also build tables together creating our own space demostrating our economic power ....
....When there's a gathering of Collectively Great Minds, strategies only head ⬆️⬆️"UPWARDS"⬆️⬆️
Let's Go 👏🏾

Last week, I had the opportunity to catch up with my friend Rico Paul V. and finally meet Charlotte ABiOdun Epée-WillSuN 🇳🇬🇨🇲🇬🇭🇹🇬🇺🇸.
We shared ideas on our efforts and discussed ways to grow.
We also sparked a conversation with a new friend, Martin Froger Silva.
It's great to see amazing people coming together.
Well, here we are. It has been quite a ride, many ups and downs, but way more good times than bad. I need to thank all of my sales managers, sales directors, general managers, regional and country directors, at the last count around 8,6,9,7 and 5 respectively, for their constant help and support. The countless members of the service and production teams for putting up with me and not moaning too much whenever I dropped the ball. All of my sales colleagues past and present, way too many to mention, for their encouragement, advice, piss taking and support, this job would have been impossible without you.
Being now 60 years old, I feel this job is no longer for me, however if I were just 10 years younger, Elis would be the very best company for me to work for. The 35 year old me would be buzzing, the service we offer today is far far better than it ever was and what I believe is planned for the future will keep us at least 12 months ahead of any competition, like it has always been. To the members of the service team who may not agree 100% with that last comment, remember how many customers your plant services and how many customers actually complain in any given month. It is such a small percentage, far more customers are happy with us, they just don't have the time to call you to tell you so.
When I joined Sunlight there were big walls between the departments, sales never talked to service, production never talked to sales and transport never talked to anyone. Over the years we have knocked those walls down and we are so much better for it. My advice to everyone is for you all to keep talking. Especially my newer sales colleagues, your service team colleagues are a goldmine of information, so make them your best friends. A box of biscuits at Christmas or a round of ice lollies in the summer go a long way.
With that I'll say goodbye. We are off travelling. See you later.
** Congratualtions Simon Ossitt **
After 24 hugely successful years at Elis Simon is retiring. We had a great night last night not only celebrating the success of the team in Q2 but also the success that Simon Ossitt is.
Its very rare now especially in sales that someone reaches a 24 year career in one company but with Simon it is no surprise, speaking with various people around the business the same words to describe Simon always come up, dapper, committed, knowledgeable, gentleman, honest, successful.
Simon it has been a pleasure, you have been an example to your peers at Elis in an outstanding career and you will be missed. Enjoy the free time and all that single malt whisky 😜 👏👏

For those who are responsible for planning the operations and strategic direction of their nonprofit’s board, I offer a few suggestions based on one of the boards that I serve on, Landscape Architecture Foundation.
☑️ Make at least 1 seat available to emerging leaders. Their perspective is invaluable.
☑️ Meetings in-person should be designed around spending time for breaking bread together and building relationships during which all other work is set aside for maximum and genuine attention towards each other as humans and the greater big picture mission of the organization.
☑️ Hosting online committee meetings has proven effective, because relationships are also built from f2f video interactions, as groups commit time to do actual work together with the best brains.
☑️ Spend less time on fancy presentations and presenting to each other, and more time providing valuable industry updates through conversational report outs and with data!
☑️ Focus on information mobility! Communication is a board’s key responsibility. Figure out how to mobilize the information that shows you’re paying attention to your audience’s needs and pain points.
If you serve on a board or in an organization that has a board, feel free to offer additional tips from your experience 👇

Wishing everyone a wonderful New Years and that 2024 bring you what you hope for.
For me, in reflection of 2023 and looking forward in 2024. 2023 in our business saw growth in business, clients and ourselves as business owners. I am extremely proud of Dr Anna Blackman FCPHR and I for the business we have created, ensuring we have flexibility to dare to dream, explore, connect and create new opportunities, whilst honouring our core values of authenticity, integrity and commitment to our clients.
2024 brings some exciting new products, continuing to develop our sports Wellbeing program with several Netball Associations and other sporting fields and continuous growth.
When asked today, what my word for 2024 is, it took some time to find the right word to connect how I feel and my word for this year is Whole-ism, meaning 'The whole-istic way of Living and Succeeding through integration and Synery'.
For me, this means finding balance in family and business. Creating routines and automation to build synergy and harmony while enhancing human connection. Developing deeper client and friendship connections for success and survival. Feeling whole in all parts of my world.
What does your 2024 look like? What is your word?
We would like to wish all of our family, friends, clients and partners a happy new year! Here’s to a great 2024. We can’t wait to see where this year takes us.
