📢 The International Conference "The Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector - Ways to a Circular Economy" 📢 will be held in Madrid, Spain, on 25-26 September 2024. Organized by Eurofish in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain, the conference will explore the potential within fisheries and aquaculture to adopt circular economy practices. The topics have been grouped into three sessions: Decarbonisation of the fishing fleet; Side- and waste streams within aquaculture; and Side- and waste streams within fisheries. Experts from several countries will address the audience offering new ideas, good practices, and solutions for the future. The conference will include participants from Spain and many other European countries, from the European Commission, FAO/GFCM, countries in the Black Sea region, the Caucasus, and Central Asia representing government institutions, civil society, the private sector, and intergovernmental organisations. Madagascar has recently released its inaugural fisheries transparency report, marking a significant milestone in efforts to enhance openness, democratization, and sustainability within its fisheries industry. The report, developed in accordance with the Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI), offers crucial insights into traditional, artisanal, and industrial fishing activities. A very interesting paper on the issues fishers face when asked to join in data and information reporting in fisheries management. The case study focuses on sturgeon in the North Sea but has a much broader message on the core aspects for successful cooperation with fishers in managing fisheries 1. a shared vision; 2. a clear role separation; 3. communication; and 4. trust. https://lnkd.in/ei8M25yK
