When A Job Is A Hobby, and a Dopamine-Maximizing AI Programs Kids What the World's Richest Man Says About AI Makes One Sit Up and Think! In a CNN report on Thursday, May 23, 2024, Elon Musk, the World's Richest Man and Tech Geek, loudly rings the bell on AI. "Elon Musk says artificial intelligence will take all our jobs, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. “Probably none of us will have a job,” Musk said about AI at a tech conference on Thursday. “If you want to do a job that’s kinda like a hobby, you can do a job,” Musk said. “But otherwise, AI and the robots will provide any goods and services that you want.” Musk is outspoken about his concerns about AI. During the keynote on Thursday, he called the technology his biggest fear. He cited the 'Culture Book Series' by Ian Banks, a utopian fictionalized look at a society run by advanced technology, as the most realistic and “the best envisioning of a future AI.” He used stage time to urge parents to limit the amount of social media children can see because “they’re being programmed by a dopamine-maximizing AI.” Will human hubris take us in a direction where we program robots "so well" that robots outsmart human beings? That's the challenge. We don't have a lot of evidence that we can always trust our leaders and politicians to 'do the right thing'. Human nature being what it is, we can only surmise that AI, having been designed by human's, will demonstrate similar traits. Trust is a huge issue for the modern world. We will need to trust AI, and those developing and using it, and not have too many expectations that it will create a radically different world from what it is now.
Thank you Anne Interesting read We have to embrace AI, hopefully humans will not develop new technology that makes them redundant, efficiency, high quality, safety, all the excellent attributes in oir lives and livelihoods, Arican developers for African AI-....
Thanks Anne, Great topic. I like the fact that.artificial intelligence carries a huge upside that can contribute to resolve vast and complex issues such as pandemics amongst others. Like most people, I also worry that the potential harms which need to mitigated may fall through the cracks. One such harms I think is issues around human rights and ethics. There is also the possibility that the algorithms generated may in most cases not representative of all people because a large number of the people in some countries have limited to no online presence. There is certainly lots of work to be done 😊
AI not going to feed the humanity. AI created by humans only...it should in no way allowed to overshadow us. Don't you think we are showing too much haste in getting it implemented...have we taken adequate precautionary measures to prevent its misuse? Who can say for sure that we are not going to experience more advanced versions of computer virus and bugs? Let the hue and cry be less on this. The enthusiasts may first apply AI to end the ongoing wars and violence, change the negative mindsets of the people and eradicate racism...it has to be time tested.... Thank you Anne for sharing.
Mandela was certainly an enigma. I'm releasing on eBay a set of 1st editionbsnk notes from 2012 and a sealed calendar with his image on it.
Great perspective! Definitely the future we need to understand and get on board.
Thank you for this interesting share Anne. I do agree that AI will take over a lot of jobs, but I don’t think it will make all of humanity redundant. We have to design AI that can perform tasks for us giving us more quality time to spend time on tasks that require our deep thinking. It should be designed to be the perfect executive assistant and not replace humanity. There are too many social problems in the world today if you look at the UN SDGs focus areas. Most of those people don’t even possess a smart phone or devil. I am not sure AI will be equipped to handle such global challenges.

9moIt seems like the creative genius of Elon and other 'tech geeks' is taking humanity in one direction - on a space ride to the stars - lured by the money and enchanted by the idea of hanging out with "successful billionaires" - many of whom hang out in Tinsel Town!! Rocket Science is a lot simpler than behavioural science! Human behaviour is fairly predictable in its reactions to fear and the threat of loss. 8 billion is a lot of people, who when upset, might cause some unpredictable results. The 'loose cannon' theory comes to mind. Humanoid Robots will of course be much more cooperative and easy to manage. And yes .. less interested in food or weather, and not susceptible to headaches!!!
