⚜️ ISBS World Congress started today with a very nice breakfast to get all the energy to listen to the morning conferences. The 1st session around the #Mechanical #Methods and #Modelling begun with the keynote of Pr Bernard Querleux reviewing the complexity of skin biomechanics and the mixed impacts of pollution diversity and environmental factors. It was a great review highlighting the needs of the mutiscale evaluation combined with measurement devices and clinical evaluation. Mechanical properties quantification can use various devices, the interpretation of the results must always consider the thickness of the studied zone. Indeed the Young modulus value can completely change for example considering sagging claim. Moreover considering the ethnic variability on skin mechanical, the study of Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian and Afro-american subjects confirm that the Afro-american subjects are less impact by this ageing phenomena while Caucasian subjects are the most impacted. Finally, I will say that it is important to take into account the multiscale and layer model that represents the skin using both quantification through Indentometer, cutometer or Dermatoquemeter... and visualization such as Ultrasound (25 MHerz) and also clinical evaluation. Mechanical skin properties is a tricky topic that needs careful evaluation and gather so many claims: dumpling, firming, anti-sagging, restructuring, tonic... Thank you for sharing this review 😊

As Europe awakens from its medieval slumber, the Renaissance ignites a blaze of curiosity and discovery. Chapter 2: Renaissance of the Body (1400 - 1700) In my last post, we explored the medieval foundations of healthcare. Now, let's step into the Renaissance, a time of rebirth and revolution that redefined our understanding of the human body. The invention of the printing press spreads knowledge far and wide, enabling the rapid dissemination of medical texts. Andreas Vesalius, a daring anatomist, revolutionizes the field with his meticulous dissections and detailed illustrations in "De humani corporis fabrica," challenging the long-held anatomical teachings of Galen. The Renaissance is not just about rediscovery; it's about challenging the status quo. Vesalius’s work reveals the true structure of the human body, setting new standards for medical education and practice. In the 17th century, the scientific revolution gains momentum. William Harvey's groundbreaking discovery of blood circulation shifts our understanding of the cardiovascular system from mystical to mechanical. Meanwhile, Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, with his handcrafted microscopes, peers into a previously invisible world, discovering microorganisms that hint at the true nature of disease. This era of enlightenment paves the way for a more empirical approach to medicine, laying the groundwork for future innovations. The meticulous observation and recording of patient histories begin to shape a new, systematic approach to diagnosis and treatment. But even as the Renaissance illuminates the human body, the Enlightenment is about to shine its rational light on medicine. Empirical science and reason will soon transform healthcare practices and theories. How will the seeds of scientific inquiry planted during the Renaissance blossom into a full-fledged revolution in healthcare? 🌟 Find out tomorrow.
