In the work we do in schools, systems, and communities to support people to understand and embrace restorative practices, we are often asked what is restorative justice? What is accountability? We often respond with "there is no one definition." This video is a panel of people involved with criminal systems-involved youth in Minnesota discussing the power of restorative justice and/or practices. Despite there being no one shared definition, each of these people talks about relationship, community, and healing. Check it out!

What does Restorative Justice look like? There are two main types of Restorative Justice, direct and indirect. Direct Restorative Justice would involve a face-to-face meeting between the person that was harmed and the person that caused the harm. A facilitator would be present in the room at all times. Indirect Restorative Justice means that the dialogue takes place through letters, videos or a shuttle process.

Claire described the steps you can take to advocate well for children and young people: 1.Recognise your role 2. Identifying their rights 3. Know what to ask for 4. Holding duty bearers to account and 5. Know when and where to get help. In the context of complexity and financial constraints in can be difficult to see how to support children and young people, it can feel impossible to succeed. But children and young people do have rights enshrined in law. Thank you to Staf for having us here to talk about this very important subject.
