I came across this Articulate article that simply outlines how to use Bloom's Taxonomy when creating learning objectives. Because the concepts are so easily explained in this article, I'd be remiss if I didn't share it with my community of course designers. 🎨 Enhancing eLearning with Effective Visual Design 🌟 Hi everyone! Today, let’s consider something essential for creating impactful eLearning experiences: visual design. Here’s why it matters and some practical tips to make it work in your courses: Why Visual Design Matters: - Engagement: Visuals grab attention and keep learners interested in what they're learning. - Understanding: Clear visuals help explain complex ideas in a way that's easy to grasp. - Retention: Well-designed visuals make information stick, helping learners remember it later on. Tips for Effective Visual Design in eLearning: 1. Stay Consistent: Use a cohesive colour scheme and style that reflects your client or organisation’s brand. 2. Simplicity is Key: Keep visuals clean and uncluttered. Focus on clarity to enhance understanding. 3. Guide the Eye: Use visual hierarchy—like size and placement—to emphasise important information. 4. Balance Text and Images: Mix text with relevant visuals to reinforce key points without overwhelming learners. 6. Accessibility First: Ensure your visuals are accessible to all learners, considering factors like colour contrast and readability. Visual design isn’t just about making things look nice—it’s about making learning effective and enjoyable. How do you approach visual design in your eLearning projects? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below! 👇 #eLearning #VisualDesign #InstructionalDesign #EdTech #LearningAndDevelopment #DigitalLearning

Crafting L&D that's both captivating and easily digestible for learners isn't a walk in the park. But here's the secret: put the learner at the heart of it all! By taking a learner-centered design approach, L&D professionals can use their understanding of the organization’s training needs and goals, while prioritizing the learners throughout the experience. In Dr. Jill Stefaniak, Ph.D.'s latest blog, she shares 4 tips to enhance your training experiences for the learner! 👇 1️⃣ Navigation: Ensure learners can easily find what they need by creating clear and organized structures. Consistent navigation cues and features like search bars and progress trackers keep learners on track. 2️⃣ Responsive and Accessible Design: Make your content adaptable to all devices and user-friendly for everyone. Responsive layouts and accessibility standards like WCAG ensure your material is accessible to all learners. 3️⃣ Minimize Cognitive Load: Break down complex information into manageable chunks. Clear language and visual aids help learners absorb and retain knowledge more effectively. 4️⃣ Allow for Personalization: Let learners tailor their learning experience by offering customizable learning paths, where learners can choose topics or modules based on their interests and goals. Navigating the complexities of course design can be challenging, especially when the course has multiple important (and sometimes competing, depending on the audience) goals. Recently, my team and I faced such a challenge. We were presented with a project rich in both depth and scope, tasked with ensuring learners achieve every goal without exception, all while maintaining an engaging and coherent learning experience. Missing even a single objective could significantly impact the course's effectiveness and its value to learners and clients alike. Moreover, we needed to provide enough depth without overwhelming learners with an excess of information, potentially scattering their focus and engagement. How did we navigate these challenges? 🌟Action mapping! 🌟 Action mapping helped ensure that every element of the course served a specific learning goal and contributed to a cohesive and impactful learner experience. It offered us a clear framework to determine the placement of information and maintain learner engagement throughout the course. I’m curious to hear from other instructional designers. Have you faced similar challenges in your work? How have you approached them? Let’s start a conversation in the comments below.
