Clear communication is important to parents, helping to avoid mixed messages. We understand the challenges and concerns parents have raised regarding the shortage of Educational Psychologists. The Head of Inclusion provided an update to address these issues and share the efforts being made to improve the service. The situation at present includes: • three off-island Educational Psychologists (EPs) assisting with statutory work whom all have previous experience working with the Jersey team • three EPs and an assistant EP working with schools on the island • active recruiting for additional staff is taking place having secured one new psychologist starting in August, with more interviews scheduled; however, some delays in statutory work due to illness and maternity leave have occurred • a policy change regarding privately commissioned reports has taken place. Reports by licensed practitioners are now considered when processing a request for a Record of Need (RoN) The Forum appreciates the transparency of this update and the work and efforts in place to improve this service. #Send #recordofneed #inclusion

The full report suggests that pupils were being kicked, punched and tortured leaving them all in horrific ways both mentally and physically. This is not the first time this has happened. Over the last couple of years, incidents have occurred with students going through similar traumatic experiences. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲? 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆? 🏫Comprehensive inspections of all school environments, with specific focus on safeguarding procedures, especially for those schools who work with neurodivergent children and individuals with learning disabilities. 🏫Increase financial support for Special Educational needs and disabilities (SEND) expertise. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗺 𝗜 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀? Things that are now stuck in my head:- 1. On there being absolutely no evidence the student has done what they have been accused of doing, the university Investigating Officer said: “I am concerned you lack insight into your actions” 2. On introducing medical evidence from a clinical psychologist the Investigating Officer said: “it’s not from a GP so we shouldn’t accept it” (not true). 3. On reporting a newly diagnosed disability the university told the student: “you should have told us sooner and anyway your adjustments would be the same” (not true). #students #highereducation #university #appeals #complaints #disability #disabiltysupport

Looking for research in the field of #neurodiversity #recruitment and emergency services, such as #police #firefighting #ambulance. I am interested in #ADHD and how high emergency level jobs may potentially attract people with #dopamine shortages. The questions I pose: How a physical immersion in an emergency activity responds to ADHD needs? How could the sectors/roles which offer such potential attract the right people?
