Exciting News: Delighted to share that I've accepted a 6-month internship at Autodesk! 🚀 Application Process: Embarking on this journey through a college recruitment drive, the four-round process was both challenging and enlightening, offering a comprehensive assessment of my skills and alignment with Autodesk's innovative spirit. Round 1 - Coding Assessment: The initial CodeSignal online assessment rigorously tested my grasp of data structures and algorithms. From array manipulation to regex pattern matching and a nuanced modification of the maximum subarray sum problem, I tackled each question methodically, securing a score of 568/600. Interview Round Highlights: 👨💻 Technical Interview I and II: (35 + 45 mins) The first technical interview covered data preprocessing intricacies, outlier analysis methodologies, distinctions between perspective and descriptive analysis, and practical coding challenges (standard leetcode) followed by discussion on addressing overfitting and underfitting while training models. The second interview delved into Python proficiency, API data handling, operating systems, networking with a focus on the transport layer, and SQL discussions encompassing various types of joins. Additionally, the conversation extended to application-based queries involving data-specific Python libraries and file data reading in hierarchical directories, along with inquiries into the past projects. 😊 Managerial Discussion (1 hr approx): What I anticipated as an HR round transformed into an engaging managerial discussion with Padmaja M.. The conversation started with an exploration of my soft skills and transitioned into a discussion about my unpublished research project. Despite data privacy issues hindering a live project showcase, her understanding and support led to a verbal explanation. We traversed through the intricacies of data privacy, strategies for data analysis and modeling, and a creative exploration of my tech-related terminology explanation approach. The hour-long discussion seamlessly flowed into past internship experiences, my problem-solving approach, and unique questions that allowed me to showcase my creative thinking. Importantly, during the Q&A session, I gained invaluable insights into Autodesk's remarkable work-life balance and vibrant culture. This was undeniably the best interview experience yet with coolest manager ever! I received a lot of comments, messages and feedback about my VIRAL video about Autodesk Forma last week. With almost 1.4 MILLION views 😱 between reels (go check out @designbuildladies) and LinkedIn, I was bound to get both positive and negative comments. That’s part of the game! One message stood out and I am so happy this individual sent me this. I asked for permission to post the message and was granted it, so see below to read it! Forma saves time with planning and designing things like parking layouts. Typically drawn manually. This individual spent an entire internship drawing what Forma can automate!! . I had a similar experience on the construction side. I had an internship where my summer assignment was going to be creating a submittal registry for the project. While I didn’t understand the importance of the task as a 20 year old, I could tell I would not learn much about construction with this assignment. What did I do? I requested to be transferred to a different team on the project. When I was denied that, I went to the company intern coordinator and requested to be transferred to a different project. That was also denied. I knew my worth and that construction interns were in high demand at that time. The next day I started an internship with a different company… I left an internship because I was assigned a task to spend my summer doing that Autodesk Construction Cloud AutoSpecs uses #AI to complete in minutes. This technology didn’t exist back then. But it does today so don’t let your interns or employees hate their jobs because of something AI can do for you. . Even today I worry about sharing this story as I can imagine how many would judge and label me. I think it’s important to share though. Talent is the most important asset your business has! What a good way to start a monday! 🌟 Diving into Solid Edge by Siemens during my internship has been an incredible experience. At university, I primarily worked with other CAD softwares, so having the chance to learn more about Solid Edge has been both refreshing and educational. The software’s robust simulation options, especially, have stood out to me. This is how I went from being a mechanical engineer 🔧 to a game developer 🎮 at Ubisoft India Studios. I get asked a lot about how I made this incredible and quite difficult switch, so here you go. As soon as I started my engineering career in mechanical at SRM University, I knew I needed to increase my knowledge. So I started visiting library often, studying new topics and industries. That was when I came across this book called "Creating Games with Unity and Maya" by Adam Watkins, and it changed my perception. I was always a passionate gamer but knew very little about creating them. That was when game development piqued my interest, and I started learning to code and making small games using Unity 3d engine and creating few models on Autodesk Maya. Although I had cracked a few interviews and got placed in my campus placements, I did not really wanted to pursue mechanical. That's when I composed a mail, including all my work, and sent it to my dream company, Ubisoft. As I hoped, my work got noticed, and I got an interview call from them. The next problem was that I only knew so much coding since I primarily studied mechanical. Even though I had done a C++ course in the past, I had so much more to learn for the interview. That's when my friend from Computer Science branch, Aakash Mathur, came in and provided me with the guidance and resources I needed to crack the interview. As a result, after passing 1 written test and 2 technical rounds of interviews, I was called for a 6-month internship at Ubisoft Pune in my last semester of graduation. The lesson of this story is clear: where there is a will, there is a way. I would say the actionable steps if you want to switch to the game industry would be: 🚀 Start making games; it doesn't matter how small, how bad, or how buggy your first game is; make it. Try to create as much as possible. Learn from every single project and add those skillsets to your utility belt. 🚀 Perseverance; most people don't make it because they lack the will. If you really want to move, you will. Believe in yourself and stay consistent. 🚀 Showcase your work; get feedback, and improve further on it. #gamedevelopment #videogames #gamingindustry
