🌟We are pleased to announce the successful completion of our two workshops: Lightweight Design with Fiber Composites - Theory and Practice (LFVK-T&P), in cooperation with the IAM-WK: Institute for Applied Materials, KIT, and Programming in CAE Applications (PiCAE).
In the LFVK-T&P course, the students designed weight-optimized bending beams given a design space, a maximum deflection and a minimum load capacity. The course includes the characterization of the material, the structural simulation as well as the manufacturing and testing of the optimized part. It was a pleasure to see the motivation and creativity of the students and the concepts they developed. Congratulations to the winning team whose beam met all the requirements with the lowest weight of less than 100g.
During the PiCAE semester workshop, we provided valuable insights into the daily work of simulation engineers. We introduced the participants to the fundamentals of the Finite Element Method (FEM) using practical examples in ABAQUS. We covered typical procedures for model creation and explored Python scripting and the implementation of material models in FORTRAN subroutines. Our primary goal was to demonstrate the practical application of FEM and scripting, connecting theoretical and mathematical principles. Participants enhanced their computational engineering skills through a combination of lectures, guided classroom exercises, and collaborative semester-long projects.
These experiences provided students with practical knowledge and helped them gain a deeper understanding of the field, preparing them for real-world challenges.💼🎓
