It may be Black Friday but as always, we're all about going Green over here! 🎄♻️💚 Charity shops have bargains all year round unlike Black Friday 'deals' where 9 out of 10 are actually found to be the same price or cheaper at other times of the year 👀 If you've bought or are planning on buying some of your Christmas presents in charity shops this year then leave a comment letting us know! #GoodCauseSantaClause #charityshops #sustainablegifting

Is your charity a canoe or a ocean liner? I've worked in some big charities and now I manage a small one. And I'm here to say that there is a world of difference between the two. When I was in a larger charity things like brand recognition, having well resourced dedicated fundraising and coms teams meant that there was a level of ease around how funding flowed, we could meet all sorts of funders needs because we had capacity to do so. It felt like we were magnets 🧲 But now in a small charity I notice that despite our struggle to attract resources there are things we can do that bigger charities just can't. Like react quickly and decisively when the people we support ask us to, it's the difference between changes of direction in a canoe and an ocean liner. We're nippy, we are creative and we get things done. And the thing is our sector needs both. If you are in a medium or large charity and you want to show support for us little guys have a read of Wayne Murray blog and then get involved in #SmallCharityWeek if you can. Because all you need to do is love small charities. ● L – Listen and Learn: I will learn what small charities do in my neighbourhood ● O – Organise: I will get my community involved with small charities ● V – Volunteer: I will support small charities with my time, voice and money ● E – Engage: I will do a bit more to make my community better. #LoveYourSmallCharity #SmallCharityWeek2024 blog in link.

Bristol based charity? We're giving away... 🎁 A two-hour vision and values team workshop! Today is #thanksgiving, so it seems appropriate to be making some noise about this year's Bara Studio giveaway. If you're a charity, CIC or non-profit in the Bristol area, you could win a two-hour vision and values workshop (worth £1,000) for you and your team. All you need to do is sign up for our newsletter. That's it! No resharing, tagging, or crazy hoops to jump through. Go to the website and sign up using the link below, and you'll be automatically entered. (It's your monthly guide to raising more funds, saving time, and building confidence in your brand using creativity and strategy.) The workshop will be delivered using the Lego® Serious Play® method, and they have been a huge success according to previous winners. I'm looking forward to announcing the winner on December 10th - a week after giving Tuesday. If you're able to, please consider making a donation to a charity over the next week or two, and keep a look out for those matched funding campaigns. If you know someone who might benefit from this, please share this post with them! #Charity #Bristol

How much does your local Aldi Store Manager earn? Don't know? There is much talk in the #charity sector once again of salaries and highest earners. It speaks to our strange mindset about how we value the work of those who help others. Not particularly helped by the comments of David H. (Holdsworth) stating that: "the public rightly expects the demands of executive jobs in charities to be balanced with the selflessness that underpins what it means to be charitable" We seem to have a strong reaction to the idea that people can make much money by helping other people. And yet there is no strong reaction to how much you can make by NOT helping other people! Go figure. We know that instagram harms many young people and yet the The Daily Telegraph isn't running articles on how much Mark Zuckerberg is making. So when we hear about a tiny minority of massive salaries in the Charity Sector (lots of whom are fund managers raising income for massive grant making charities) let's not forget that the average CEO salary in 2023 was £52,000. [Edit: I read elsewhere this was £59k in 2024, can't reference that but it doesn't seem unreasonable] So the reality of most charity CEO's - well, they get paid less than an Aldi Store Manager. This 👇 is a must watch if you want to be challenged about how we think about charity. #charity #realityofaceo
Dan Pallotta: The way we think about charity is dead wrong

This Christmas, shop with purpose 🎄✨ As the festive season approaches, why not make your shopping count? Consider visiting charity shops for your Christmas gifts this year. Not only can you discover unique and meaningful presents, but you'll also be supporting wonderful causes that make a real difference. It's a win-win situation! Charity shops in the UK generated over £1 billion last year alone, funding important work in communities across the country. This year things are not so positive. Large cuts from the government have left charities and hospices in a dire situation. From helping the homeless to funding medical research, your purchases help in more ways than one. Plus, with sustainability being a growing concern, what better way to reduce your carbon footprint than by reusing and recycling? Why not pop into a charity shop this weekend and see what treasures you can find? Your thoughtful gifts will have stories to tell and can spark joy beyond the festive season. Let's make this Christmas special for everyone. #ChristmasShopping #CharityShops #SustainableLiving
