Your Life; Your Money; Your Journey -These 3 things need to reflect YOU:
And I Can't tell you how often we hear this...
I have money but its with my (choose your option below):
- Husband's
- Father's
- Brother's
- someone other than your specifically chosen person
financial advisor. - Why is that?
Great... does this person know you? Do they know that you are planning buying property in the UK this year and you're not sure how its going to affect your taxes?
Do they know they understand your aspirations of leaving something to your kids but you aren't certain about beneficiary nominations? Did they ask?
No-one wants to sound like they don't know what they are talking about, so quite often we don't ask... and surely your father, brother, husband made the best choice?
Well here's the thing, they probably did make the best choice. With view to leaving you the wealth, that they had created, as a beneficiary... not as the primary custodian of wealth. Its passed on to you now and it needs to be your plan.
Have you looked to see whether this wealth is structured best for you, and your very unique situation? Have you had the discussion about how (I'm talking nuts and bolts here, not just ... do you have a Will) these funds are actually going to pass down to your kids/beneficiaries?
Make sure your advisor knows you, for who you are, with all your quirks, fascinations, yearning for knowledge. Make sure that your financial plan works for you, where you are in your life now, this very second, factoring everything in ... and then your beneficiaries, make sure this isn't just a mention on a document - there is much more to it.
