IRREVOCABLE HARM OF LABELING YOUR CHILD Labels stuck in childhood are hard to peel off later. Toddlers tagged 'Shy' are likely to always doubt their social capabilities; Those branded 'aggressive' are likely to push and bully their way through life. Just because a child is born with a tendency to be shy doesn't mean she can't gain confidence and learn how to socialize comfortably. Just because a child has endless energy, she needs not to be on her toes always Her energies can be constructively channelled into sports or dance or other acceptable active activities. Whatever the inborn traits, parental nurturing can influence how a child ultimately turns out. STOP LABELING OR TAGGING YOUR CHILD. When minds are free, they are most creative. My 5-year-old son, Jaibir, recently felt inspired to create his own lock using 'unused' chopsticks and a pen from his scribble pad. Parenting is a full-time job that can't be outsourced. Here are some key efforts we made during his formative years: - We focused on age-appropriate teachings. - Encouraged him to be observant and curious rather than providing all the answers. - Emphasized that discovery leads to lifelong experiences. - Limited screentime - even at almost 6 years old, he has yet to watch TV; we haven't upgraded our 11-year-old 32-inch LED TV. - Taught him essential life skills like cleaning, mopping, and vegetable peeling. - Fostered a love for other beings - he adores dogs. Nurturing a child's creativity and independence from a young age is vital for their holistic development. #Parenting #ChildDevelopment #Creativity
