HOW TO MAKE A SPLASH? First impressions count in interior design. In most cases entrances are the first opportunity to impress: vestibules, foyers, halls, corridors and open plan spaces. These are my top priorities when assessing the potential of any space (residential or commercial): 1. Flooring - is it interesting, of good quality, does it complement the whole look or it distracts. 2. Architectural and structural features - are there any? If so, how they can be enhanced? 3. Walls - if there are large empty areas - can a good colour make a difference? Could an interesting colour or patterned wallpaper make a difference. 4. Artwork. Art (including sculpture and paintings) are fantastic ways to express personality/branding/company values etc. Whether the idea is: refined period, artistic, flamboyant, industrial - the branding has to be consistent throughout. 5. Large mirror with clever lighting (with or without a console table like in the last image) is eye catching and impressive. The impovement of at least one would dramatically improve the overall design. It doesn't have to cost the earth, it can be re-used, re-cycled and cleverly thought through.
