Multifamily's affordable housing sub-segment is a great investment opportunity for commercial real estate—yet few investors understand that, said Landon Taylor, the CEO of MacFarlane Partners, in the latest AFIRE POV interview with industry thought leaders. The conventional wisdom suggests the sector is only for the bottom third of wage earners. But Taylor said affordable housing actually represents 57% of total multifamily units in the US. And the sector is compelling because it provides a steady cash flow—making it a great opportunity for investors. Yet Taylor's hometown of #SanFrancisco — among other major cities — faces significant challenges in implementing affordable housing due to barriers that interfere with its growth. “It’s been notoriously behind,” Taylor said.
