Absolutely! If I can successfully transition from an Internal Audit role to a SOC analyst role in the span of a few months, what's to stop anyone else from doing something similar. My advice is to pursue what you're most intrigued by, and as long as it keeps sparking the curiosity that enables you to start tinkering and learning on your own, then NO ONE should stop you! Keep putting in the work and it will all pay off! . . . #machineintheshell #machineinit #technology #nerd #techie #techadept #techenthusiast #systemadministrator #blueteam #networksecurity #threatdetection #threathunt #cybersecurity #infosec #securityanalytics #elasticsearch #automation #raspberrypi #linux #bash #python #powershell #wireshark #ansible #DevOps #SecOps

Cybersecurity Leader, Mentor, and Entrepreneur

I think that there is a misconception that the cybersecurity industry is for experienced IT professionals only. I completely disagree. I started in this field at 18 with no experience, no degree, and no certifications. I’m now fairly well known in this industry and do have a pretty good success rate at stopping cybersecurity breaches. I don’t think just anyone should be hired to work in a SOC, but I think that we shouldn’t gate keep it by requiring that people work X number of years in a help desk role. Help desk hardly even applies to what a cybersecurity analyst should be doing on a daily basis anyways. In the same way, I do think that the fact that I am 23 years old may dissuade some people from doing business with my company, Blueberry Security. I think that’s a shame for them because our expertise, and value in blue team really is unmatched. Some people are meant for this job. They dream about doing it. Let them give it a shot! -- Please Like & Share! I want Blueberry Security to become even more well known! Blueberry Security is a blue team cybersecurity consulting company that designs, staffs, and trains SOCs to actually catch real world cybersecurity threats.
