In Minnesota, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MDOT) Plan is to invest about $68 million in an Electric (EV) Vehicle Infastructure over the next five years, along with a 20% non-federal match. The anticipated projections for 2030 is that (nearly) 30% of all new car sales with be Electric Vehicles. The need for a significant National EV Charging Infrastructure Implementation Plan are readily apparent and necessitated at this time.

On Wednesday, July 17th, Rhode Island celebrated the completion of Phase 1 of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program. Under the NEVI Program, state officials worked towards expanding the existing electric vehicle infrastructure by installing additional EV charging stations along major US interstate corridors. Rhode Island is the first state reported in the country to complete Phase 1 of the program using ChargePoint Express Plus Power Link PL2000 series chargers. The notable milestone was achieved via a partnership among Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources (OER), Rhode Island Department of Transportation, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, the United States DOT/Federal Highway Administration, and the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation. The achievement for Rhode Island overall consists of the installation of four level 3 DC fast EV charging stations along Interstate- 95; two DC charging stations located at Warwick Park & Ride; and two DC charging stations at the Ashaway Park & Ride in Hopkinton. Following the completion of the first phase of the NEVI Program, Rhode Island plans to continue with Phase 2 by the end of 2024, which encompasses installation of EV charging stations based on public and private user needs. #ElectricVehicle #EVCharging #ChargingStation #NEVIProgram #DCCharing #FastCharging #EVInfrastructure #RhodeIsland #USInterstates #ElectricPower #MAPSearch #ENVision

It's not exactly breaking news that building new DC fast charging stations for EVs with money from the 2021 federal infrastructure law got off to a slow start, but now momentum is building and some states are even on a second round of bidding. Here in Massachusetts, the state is using a two-step process, first pre-qualifying a handful of companies, signing contracts, and then moving to site selection and development. States like Maine, Ohio, and Pennsylvania moved a lot quicker by just picking a bunch of sites and putting them up for bid. Which approach do you think works better? Thoughts? https://lnkd.in/eVRg6jsH #EV

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Highway Administration will distribute $521M in funding to help build-out electric vehicle (EV) charging and alternative-fueling infrastructure across 29 states, eight federally recognized tribes, and the District of Columbia. The grants are being made possible through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s $2.5-billion Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program to deploy chargers to ensure more drivers can charge their EVs where they live, work, and shop while also supporting longer trips. https://buff.ly/3XDfxdj #transportation #electricvehicles #EV

My story this week for SAE International on expanding concern about the cost of installing charging infrastructure for commercial EVs - particularly long-haul tractor-trailers. One prominent study projects a nearly $1-trillion pricetag to install necessary charging for all types of electrified commercial vehicles. As with most things EV, not everyone agrees... Particular thanks to Loren McDonald, EV infrastructure source extraordinaire, for his thoughts and expertise.
