Have you ever come across a CIO reporting to a Director of Services? This raises concerns about the company's grasp of reality. The CIO is a well-established C-suite role, and it's common for CIOs to have CTOs or CISOs in their reporting line. It appears that job titles encompassing corporate heads of multimillion-dollar fiscal IT budgets are now being equated with glorified IT administrators. This trend begs the question: are CIO and IT-related titles quickly becoming diminished? So what is the new title for someone who reports to the CEO and manages budgets for protecting, procuring, future-proofing, and ensuring digital initiatives align with overall company goals? What differentiates a CDO (Chief Digital Officer) from a CIO or CTO? Unlike a CIO or CTO, a CDO focuses on the utilization of digital technologies to enhance a company’s overall business strategy. While a CIO is primarily concerned with IT infrastructure and a CTO with technology-oriented strategy, a CDO is dedicated to improving customer and client experiences through digital transformation. The CDO role often includes exploring new business models and markets, leveraging digital trends. They are also responsible for digital marketing and online customer engagement.
